Michael P. Kashuba of the Tripp Park section of Scranton died on Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center hospital following an illness. His wife of 62 years is the former Geraldine Matsko.
Born on April 4, 1942, he was an active member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Scranton. Michael served on the Tripp Park Neighborhood Association. An avid hunter and fisherman, he supported many conservation organizations. Most notably, he was a founding member and director of the Lackawanna Valley chapter of Trout Unlimited and served on the board of the Lackawanna River Conservation Association, working to maintain the health and habitat of the Lackawanna River and its tributaries.
He traveled extensively with his wife, family and friends, enjoying trips to various parts of the United States and Canada, and to Belize. He and his wife enjoyed several cruises together.
Michael was a lifelong Yankee fan. He and his wife had season tickets to the RailRiders and the local Penguins games.
In addition to his wife, Geraldine, Michael is survived by daughter, Cheryl; son, Michael and wife, Dellyn; daughter, Mary Beth and husband, Shawn Seabrook; grandson, Matthew, all of Scranton; three stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, William and sister, Helen, both of Factoryville; brother-in-law, Robert Matsko, Taylor; cousins; nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
His family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Geisinger Community Medical Center for their compassion and excellent care through his final days.
