Michael Lavelle Obituary

Michael Joseph Lavelle, 70, formerly of Scranton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Born Dec. 23, 1951, he was the son of Joseph Lavelle and Clouda Nash Lavelle. He graduated in 1969 from West Scranton Central Catholic High School. He went on to join the National Guard and was a member of the 109th Infantry. He spent most of his years working at RCA/Thompson Electronics and retired from Geisinger Marworth Treatment Center.

Michael was a man with many titles: husband, father, papa, devoted friend and sports fan. He was an avid fisherman and huntsman. He had a welcoming personality, a quick wit and jokes ready to share. When he wasn't fishing or hunting you would find him at the softball fields cheering on his favorite softball player, granddaughter Madalyn or at granddaughter Riley's equestrian lessons.

Michael and his loving wife, Madalyn Tomasofsky Lavelle, were high school sweethearts and shared 51 years of marriage. Michael is survived by his believed wife, Madalyn; two loving children, Kevin Lavelle Northport, Fla., and Amy (Dirk) Underwood, Burleson, Texas; adoring grandchildren, Ashley (Dale) Piwowarski, Scott Twp., Madalyn Shaw, Riley Shaw, Cade Underwood and Caleigh Underwood; sister, Carol Lavelle; brothers, William (Dori) Lavelle and Edward Lavelle; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was overjoyed awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild due in February.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph Lavelle and Robert Lavelle; sister, Mary Jean DeNunzio; nephews, Joseph Lavelle, Robert Lavelle and David DeNunzio; and niece, Jean Marie DeNunzio.

Funeral services for Michael were held at Stephenville Funeral Home in Stephenville, Texas, on Tuesday. A memorial service will take place in the future in Scranton.

I offer my deepest sympathy to Midge and all of Mike's family on your loss. Mike was a good friend of mine growing up in West Side. We had great times playing baseball, football, fishing, hiking and sometimes stuff that got us in trouble, but we always had each other's back. Our lives took us on in different directions but I always remembered those times and never will forget the friendship we shared. RIP.
