Michael McHugh of Spring Brook Twp. passed away peacefully at home on Monday evening, March 13, 2023, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Beverly (Plis) McHugh and they were married for 46 years.
Born in Scranton on Nov. 2, 1946, Michael was the son of the late Frank and Edna (Gilgallon) McHugh. A graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Scranton, Michael entered the Pa. State Police Academy in January of 1971. He proudly served as a Pa. state trooper for 25 years. Michael served at the Media, Belmont and Milesburg barracks, retiring from the Swiftwater barracks in June of 1995.
Michael loved traveling, having gone on 19 cruises and visiting every Caribbean Island. He was an avid Willie Nelson fan, attending close to 100 concerts.
Michael was a loving husband, father and Baba, he will be missed immensely. The beautiful memories we have of him will live on in our hearts for all eternity.
Michael is survived by his children, Patrick and his wife, Jamie, of Moscow; Mark, of Scranton; and Colleen Kuzmak and Corey, of Spring Brook Twp.; his sister, Maryanne Klens and husband, Frank, of Scranton; and his brother, Brian McHugh, of Scranton; his sister-in-law, Patricia Plis, of Moosic; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, and always made his beautiful blue eyes sparkle. Kayli McHugh, who made him a grandpa for the first time 13 years ago and who gave him the name Baba. A name he loved and was passed down to his other grandchildren. Jax Kuzmak, his first grandson, who he played cowboys and Indians with for hours on end. Gemma Kuzmak, who has her Baba's beautiful blue eyes and who he proudly taught to fold the tablecloth like an American flag. Colton McHugh, who made his final days so happy. How Baba loved watching him play with his huge car and truck collection. He always said "grandchildren are what life is about. What would I do without them."
A special thank you to Dr. Eric Smith, Andrea from VNA Home Health, and Maria from Allied Hospice. Your kindness and compassion for Michael will never be forgotten.

Bev, where did the time go? It seems like just yesterday that you and Mike and me and Len went out together. The kids came along and our lives took us in different directions. And now here we are, both missing our guys. Your happy memories will help you get through this painful time and knowing Mike is no longer sick must be a comfort.
