Patrick McNulty, 33, of South Abington Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 4. He was the beloved son of Jack and Margaret Harding McNulty, South Abington Twp., and is also survived by his sister, Katie McNulty and husband, Michael Batyko, Clarks Summit; brother, John McNulty and wife, Kim, Moorestown, N.J.; nieces, Abigail, Megan, Allison and Kaitlyn McNulty, Moorestown, N.J.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Pat was preceded in death by his brother, Michael McNulty.
A graduate of Abington Heights High School, class of 2008, Pat attended Kutztown University, Lackawanna College and Johnson College. He was a member of IATSE Local #329 since 2010 and enjoyed working at concerts, stage plays and other large events in the area. He especially enjoyed seeing major entertainers and sold out concerts. He was learning to play the guitar and was becoming quite proficient in his study of Spanish.
Pat grew up in a sports loving family and he especially enjoyed attending sports events with his dad and mom. In support of his older brother, John, he went to NFL games in Florida, Texas, California, Arizona and New York. He also attended many college football games where John was a coach, including Notre Dame, Rutgers, Boston College and many others. Pat was also a lifelong basketball fan. He played with a group of friends almost every week in grade school, high school and all through his adult life. He was always invigorated after a game when he had a good scoring night, and was especially proud of his three pointers.
He was proud of his Irish ancestry and loved anything Irish. He went on a family vacation to Ireland several years ago and was eagerly looking forward to going back to Ireland later this year to see the Notre Dame vs. Navy game. Pat's home proudly displayed the McNulty Coat of Arms and various pictures of Ireland.
To those who truly knew him, Pat was a beautiful soul who had an outgoing and friendly personality. He was intelligent, had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile that could light up a room. He had a warm, generous and loving heart, and was often found helping a neighbor in need of some help or just someone to talk to. His friends would often say that they loved him like a brother. Pat especially loved children and dogs. He had hopes of someday becoming a father and he was about to get a new dog before his untimely passing.
After a long period of recovery, Pat recently relapsed and lost his battle with addiction. Throughout his struggles, his family and friends never left his side. While our hearts are broken forever, we will forever be grateful to all those who supported Pat and helped him along the way.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 13, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. All attending the Mass are kindly asked to proceed to the church.
Friends and family may pay their respects Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Scranton Counseling Center, 329 Cherry St., Scranton, PA 18505, for the Patrick McNulty Foundation for Addiction Treatment; or to a charity of the donor's preference.
