Paul Steppacher Obituary

Paul A. Steppacher, 66, of Jessup, died Thursday evening at Moses-Taylor Hospital. His wife is the former Rita Biancarelli Tinsley.

Born in Dunmore, son of the late Augustus H. Steppacher and Mary M. Moessner Steppacher, he was a graduate of the University of Scranton and Marywood University's School of Social Work. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and rose to the rank of corporal in the Force Recon Second Division Expedition. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Upon completion of his tours of duty in Vietnam, he declined an invitation to the Naval Academy, choosing civilian life but remaining ever a patriot. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the National Rifle Association, the Scranton Club and professional organizations in the filtration and energy industries.

He was a loving husband and a devoted and proud father, stepfather and stepgrandfather. He will be missed far and wide across this country he loved, by all who knew him and those who knew only his kindness.

Husband, father, friend, and buddy, all who knew him have been honored by the time he shared with them.

Also surviving are three daughters, Tara Steppacher, New York City; Erin Steppacher, Dunmore; and Sgt. Mary Kathryn Steppacher, Scranton; a stepdaughter, Bria Tinsley Worobey; a step-granddaughter, Ella Worobey; three brothers, Dr. Robert C. Steppacher. Barnegat Light, N.J.; Augustus H. Steppacher Jr., Clarks Summit; and attorney William C. Steppacher, Waverly; four sisters, Lois M. Lazzarino and Mary Lou Steppacher, both of New York City; Ann P.G. Chamberlain, Farmingville, N.Y.; and Karen S. Milligan. Cinnaminson, N.J.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Ryan Steppacher.

The funeral will be Monday from the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St., Jessup, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Willow Street, Peckville. Interment, private.

Friends may call Sunday, 5 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ryan Steppacher Endowment Fund at Scranton Preparatory School, 1000 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, PA 18503.
