Rachel Cusick Obituary

Rachel Marie Cusick, 12, of Dickson City, passed away early Saturday morning.

Born in Scranton on Sept. 30, 1997, daughter of Patrick and Laurie Schuler Cusick, Rachel Marie was about to begin the school year in fifth grade at Mid Valley Elementary School in Throop. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in South Abington Twp.

Remembered for being so caring at such a young age, she always took care of others, especially her younger sister, Amanda.

Growing up she loved all animals and most recently wished to build a rescue home for strays. She eventually wanted to have a job working with animals. She had a tremendous heart and exceptional sense of humor.

She enjoyed working side by side with her mother at the Crown Flea Market in Eynon and also at her mother's new store, the Lollipop Lane, Olyphant.

A loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, niece and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is also survived by her sister, Amanda Cusick, at home; her two half-brothers, C.J. Crespo, at home; and Oswald Crespo, Birmingham, Ala.; her paternal grandparents, Bill and Peggy "Nana" Jennings Cusick, West Scranton; her maternal grandparents, Jack and Linda Shafer, Mount Cobb; a paternal great-grandmother, Frances Hartnett, Scranton; a maternal great-grandmother, Donna Pendergraft, Pittsburgh; her two aunts, Rebecca Nelson and husband, Keith, Moscow; and Kelly Ann Cusick, Scranton; her two uncles, Rob Schuler and Tim Cusick, both of New York City, N.Y.; and great-aunts and great-uncles.

Private funeral services will be conducted on Saturday in the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., West Scranton, with private interment to follow in the Cathedral Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial Mass for Rachel will be held at her father's parish church on Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. A memorial service will also be held at the convenience of the family at a later date in the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Morgan Highway in South Abington Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for the Cusick family may be sent to NET Credit Union, 1444 Lackawanna Ave., Olyphant, PA 18447.
