Raymond Sands Obituary

Raymond L. Sands of Mehoopany died Thursday at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock.

He was born in Mehoopany, on Aug. 18, 1931, son of the late Gilbert R. and Ruth French Sands. Raymond was a 1948 graduate of Mehoopany High School and had been employed by Sproul Construction in Scranton as a truck driver for over 31 years.

Surviving are three sons, Raymond Jr., Mehoopany; Chris, Meshoppen; and Raymond, Falls; five daughters, Janice Mortimer, Tunkhannock; Sara Taylor, Wyalusing; Phyllis Reed, Falls; Areonna Gorden, Tunkhannock; and Mary Ruth Brown, Centermoreland; two brothers, Gilbert T. Sands, Tunkhannock; and Korah Sands, Centermoreland; a sister, Ruthann Smith, Lake Alfred, Fla.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Raymond was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald R. Sands and Gary R. Sands; and three sisters, Ellen S. Miller, Rosemary Shoemaker and Francis Sands.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Charles Bishop. Interment will be in Vaughn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home, from 2 until the time of service.
