Robert Hickey, 84, of Greenfield Township died Friday at home in the company of his adoring wife of 63 years, Sandra Hickey, and surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born the son of Edward Hickey and Viola (Isaacs) Hickey in Queens, N.Y. Preceding him in death were his brother, Edward Hickey and sister, Barbara (Hickey) Burtis. Robert attended Brooklyn Tech High School before proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1962. He then graduated cum laude from CW Post College with a degree in physics. He worked at Northup Grumman for over 30 years, and served as General Manager at Grumman Olson, Mayfield, Pa., until his retirement.
He is survived by his three children, Dr. Robert Hickey and wife Wendy; Donna (Hickey) Slyman and husband Kevin; and his son, Glen Hickey. He had six grandchildren, Melissa (Knittle) Lee, Kyle Slyman, Danielle (Slyman) Silver, Rob Hickey, Sean Slyman and Shannon Hickey. He had three great-grandchildren, Munroe Lee, Max Lee and Jamie Slyman.
Robert loved hunting and fishing with the guys, going on cruises with his wife and friends, and attending reunions with his extended family. He was an avid reader and a film enthusiast. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Allied Home Hospice and especially Gina from Advanced Home Health who was his nurse and support for over three years.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 58 River St., Carbondale, Pa., on Saturday, Nov. 19. Friends and family will be received from 1 to 2 p.m., with the church service following. The service will be officiated by Father William McGinty.
