Robert John Pascavage

Robert John Pascavage, 66, of Scott Twp., entered into eternal rest after an extended illness, on Sunday morning at home with his loving wife, Joan Gima Pascavage, by his side.

Robert and Joan had been together since 1977 and recently renewed their vows by being blessed with the crowning of their marriage in the Orthodox Church. During his illness, Robert's belief in God was restored, and he embraced the Orthodox faith and was received into the Orthodox Church in November. By God's grace, Robert reposed in the Lord and was released from his pain on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, on which the Church celebrates the restoration of the Holy Icons, which are images of humanity restored and redeemed, and remind us that we are to be living icons, being made in God's image and likeness. It is in this faith that Robert spent his final months, and in which he held hope that following his departure from this life he would see the Kingdom of Heaven (John 11:25-26).

Robert enjoyed life and always lived it to the fullest traveling extensively through United States to all but five states, by camping, fishing and sightseeing with Joan along the way. He also loved nature and the outdoors through animals, honeybees, wildlife, long walks and gardening. He loved his trucks, motorcycles, model airplanes, and anything mechanical including maintenance and restoration. He was a member of the Lackawanna Aero Modelers and the Lackawanna Backyard Beekeepers for many years.

Robert always welcomed you with a smile and after warming up to you showed his kind-hearted soul by making one laugh and helping countless numbers of people with anything that was needed. He would remind you how precious life was by saying, "Take a measuring tape and find your age to see how much time you have left to enjoy."

Robert received his associate degree in mechanical drafting and design technology from Johnson School of Technology. He was employed as an industrial machine maintenance repairman at USM Aerostructures Corp., until his illness and had previously worked at Global Metalform, formerly Suckle.

In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by a sister-in-law, Janet Gima; and three siblings, Ann Marie (Harold) Bower, Joseph and Mary Ellen (Paul) Swerdak; a sister-in-law, Connie; an uncle, Steve Rabel; nephews, a niece, grandnieces and the extended Bosak family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John S. and Margaret M. Rabel Pascavage; and a brother, John.

The family received friends and loved ones Wednesday, March 27, at All Saints Orthodox Church, 211 Willow Ave., Olyphant. The presanctified Liturgy was served, with a light Lenten meal following. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, at the church, with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery, Peckville. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Paul Witek, parish rector.
