Rose Yankovich Obituary

Rose Yankovich, of Peckville, died Friday at Mid-Valley Hospital. She was the widow of Walter Yankovich Sr., who died June 9, 2000. The couple was married for 54 years.

Born in Olyphant, daughter of the late Marco and Mary Serafin Klapatch, she attended Olyphant schools, and was the owner of Rose's Dress Shop in Peckville for many years. She also, along with her husband, owned and operated Hilltop Dairy in Peckville. She resided in Peckville for most of her life, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Mayfield. She was active in her church, and especially enjoyed making pierogi during the Lenten season. She was a member of the Lucky Ladies Investment Club of Peckville and the Blakely-Peckville Business and Professional Women's Club.

Rose was a special person who dedicated her life to caring for members of her family, especially her mother and two of her siblings. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her great-grandchildren. She truly enjoyed her Saturday night dates with her great-grandson, KJ. She loved traveling with her family on trips, which took her to many places in both the United States and Europe.

She is survived by a son, Walter Jr. and wife, Rosemary, Peckville; a granddaughter, Kathleen Mercatili and husband, Keith; great-grandchildren, KJ and Kali; a brother, Michael Klapatch, Peckville; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Alex and Peter Klapatch; and six sisters, Anna Posaskie, Lucy Rusyn, Kathleen Klapatch, Nellie Kudrec, Olga Malewicz and Mary Milaniak.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St., Peckville, with Requiem Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Mayfield. Interment, parish cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Parastas services will be held Tuesday at 6.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Fire Co., P.O. Box 26, Peckville, PA 18452.
