Samuel Gentile Obituary
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Francis and Rose Caljean Gentile, he was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Parish, Jermyn.
Sam was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and served with the Pennsylvania National Guard. Before his retirement, he was a welder-machinist, having worked at Acker Drill Co. He was currently employed as a tour guide for the Lackawanna County Coal Mine Tour. He proudly instructed adult welding classes at Career Technology Center for numerous years. He and his wife were foster parents for more than 25 years.
Sam was very active in ballroom dancing, and appeared on the WVIA Ballroom Show several times. He could often be observed driving around town in his red Miata.
Surviving are three daughters, Gina Gentile, Mayfield; Lisa Gentile, Wind Gap; and Donna Vincent, Parish, N.Y.; two sons, Leo Gentile, Mayfield; and Christopher Waddle, Jermyn; six grandchildren, Samantha, Patrick, Jenneca, Gabriella, Samuel and Mary; a brother, David Gentile, Tunkhannock; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son, James; a granddaughter, Angelina; and a brother, Leonard.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Brennan and Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Church, Jermyn. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Sam words cannot express the feeling in my heart. I can never thank you for the joyous times you gave my mom the last ten years of her life. You were the most compassionate and caring man I have ever met. I'm so happy you stopped in for a visit last month and we shared some laughter. God has gained another angel. My prayers and strenght to Lisa, Gina, Donna and our most precious Leo. I am heartbroken. Hopefully Rose and him will share a dance in heaven. RIP Sam Gentile and thank you. Xo
