Theodore J. "Ted" August Sr., 74, of West Scranton, died Friday evening in the Gino Merli Veterans Center after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer's disease. He and his wife, the former Dorothy Joan Taylor, would have observed their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 8.

He was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean War as a medical aide in the 27th Infantry Division. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was last employed at the Dunmore branch of W.W. Grainger Co., where he retired in 1997.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother whose life was centered around his family. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carl J. Savino Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Jackson Street. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
