Tyler O'Donnell Obituary

Tyler Michael O'Donnell, 28, a resident of South Scranton, died unexpectedly Dec. 15, 2020, at his home.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of Sandra Calvey Shafer and husband, Willard, Throop, and Michael J. O'Donnell. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School and was employed by McLane Co.

Tyler was the most amazing human being, he was everyone's sunshine on a rainy day. He had the brightest and best smile that could light up any room and everyone will miss it so much. He was the life of every party and the light we all needed in our lives. He was the best friend to so many people and he was there for so many when they needed a helping hand or a listening ear. Tyler was the absolute best to his two little boys, Grayson (age 6) and Teagan (age 1). They looked up to him so much. He did everything with them and taught them so much about life.

He loved to go fishing, hiking, snowboarding and anything adventurous. He was a diehard Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Phillies fan. Tyler was loved by many and had many great friends he is leaving behind.

Also surviving, in addition to his parents and children, are his sisters, Breanna, Mikaila and Kyleigh Shafer; his nephews and niece, Landon, Carter and Emma Paciotti, Rylan Ephault and Jaxson Stoffey; a stepbrother, Michael O'Donnell; maternal grandmother, Sandra Calvey; paternal grandmother, Mary Gloskey; grandmother, Linda O'Donnell; great-grandmother, Veronica Strasburger; grandfather, Wilfred Calvey and wife, Kathy; an aunt and godmother, Shannon Volack and husband, Uncle Sean Volack; godfather, Mark Novack; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Nick Bruno was his ride or die. Tyler was a huge advocate for "out of the darkness" after the passing of a very close friend, Ricky Hamm.

In defining Tyler's generous spirit, he was an organ donor.

The funeral will be Wednesday with a blessing service at 10 a.m. in the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with the Rev. Scott Sterowski officiating. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Masks must be worn and social distancing practiced. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has directed that no more than 10 people may be inside at any time, so mourners are advised to pay their respects and leave immediately.
