Victor Torrisi Obituary

Victor J. Torrisi Jr., of the Greenwood section of Moosic, entered into eternal life on Thursday at Regional Hospital of Scranton, after a very courageous battle with cancer. His devoted wife is the former Barbara Blakiewicz, and together they would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on June 29.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, on Feb. 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Victor Sr. and Josephine Romeo Torrisi and attended Scranton Central High School. Victor served our country during the Korean War, attained the rank of corporal and was stationed in England. For over 44 years, Victor was the general manager for Vermont Sportswear, Taylor, and for the past 20 years he has worked at LaTrattoria Restaurant, Scranton. A devout catholic, Victor was a parishioner of Divine Mercy Parish and St. Mary's Czestochowa Church, Moosic, until its closing. Above all, he was loved by his entire family. He shared a special bond with his grandsons and enjoyed attending all of their events and activities. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was the life of the party and thoroughly enjoyed meeting and talking to people. Throughout the years, he loved to watch old movies, was an avid gardener, sports enthusiast and enjoyed going to the casino.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dave and wife, Jill of Taylor; a daughter, Sharyn Torrisi-Cartwright and husband, Craig of Parker, Colo.; two grandsons, David and Matthew Torrisi; and four stepgrandchildren, Casey, Chelsey, Cody and Cassidy Cartwright; a brother, Salvatore "Sam" and wife, Jean; and two sisters, Grace Conforti and husband, Francis; and Ann Talarico and husband, Ron, all of Scranton; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Three siblings and their spouses also preceded him in death, Frank Torrisi and wife, Louise; Rose Hartridge and husband, John; and Felicia Pugliese and husband, Robert.

The family would like to thank Dr. Chris Peters, Dr. Martin Hyzinski, Dr. Jay Bannon and Dr. Nicholas Chiumento and their entire staffs and NE Radiation Oncology.

The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, by the Rev. Francis Pauselli. Interment will follow in St. Mary Czestochowa Cemetery, Greenwood section of Moosic. Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.
