Vincent Birtel Obituary

Vincent A. Birtel Sr. of Scranton died Sunday at home.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Harold and Marie Scavazzo Birtel, he was a member of St. John Neumann Parish at Nativity of Our Lord Church and was educated in St. Mary's School. An Army veteran, he was employed by Leventhal Laboratory and, before retirement, by Allied Services. Vince was a member of American Legion Koch-Conley Post 568, VFW Avoca Post, St. Mary's Club and the NRA. He also enjoyed being an amateur radio operator, was an expert on computers and enjoyed playing pool in various pool leagues.

Surviving are a son, Vincent A. Birtel Jr., Avoca; two daughters, Marie Birtel, Pottstown; and Patricia Birtel, Ocala, Fla.; three stepsons, Michael, Pennsylvania; Timothy and Carl Dellasandro, both of Michigan, whom he raised like his own children; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Harold Birtel Jr., Frank Birtel and David Birtel, all of Scranton; three sisters, Marie Rippon and Carol Emrick, both of Williamsport; and Marion McLaughlin, Scranton; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Bailey.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., Minooka section of Scranton, with a blessing service by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor, St. John Neumann Parish. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Friends may call Tuesday, 4 to 8 p.m.

Vince & family.....
I'm so sad to read this. Vince..you know how much I loved your dad & how much fun I had with him whenever we played pool together. He was definitely one of my favorite opponents & people just to be around. He will be greatly missed.
