Walter E. Hanuscik, 90, of Blakely, died Saturday at home. His wife, Josephine Hanuscik, died in June of 2014. The couple was married for 65 years.
Born in Scott Twp., he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Barrow Hanuscik. Walter graduated from Blakely High School, class of 1948, and entered the United States Air Force after graduation. He served his country bravely during the Korean War. Walter was employed at RCA, prior to his retirement.
Wally was devoted to his wife Josephine (Jo) of 65 years. He absolutely loved being a dad and Pop Pop to his children and grandchildren, involving himself in their many activities. An avid gardener, he spent many hours outdoors tending to his landscaping and flowers. He also loved to putter in his garage fixing things with his many tools. He enjoyed watching sports, especially his beloved Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish, as well as the Phillies and Eagles. His love of Columbo and Shark Tank will always be a memory.
The depth of his kind and loving soul is only known to God as what he did for others was done in a quiet and personal way. He will always be remembered for his welcoming smile and unwavering generosity to everyone he touched.
Surviving are his children, Lisa Boraske and husband, Mark, Downington; and Cyndi Sekela, Exton; his grandchildren, Lauren Sekela, Katie and Matthew Boraske.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Albert, John, Edward, Stephen, Michael and Joseph; and a sister, Mary Tasonyi.
The funeral will be Thursday with a blessing service at 11 a.m. at James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St., Peckville, celebrated by the Rev. William Chromey. Interment will follow at St. Adalbert's Polish National Catholic Cemetery, Dickson City.
There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
