Betty Asher Obituary

Betty (Harmon) Asher Betty (Harmon) Asher died on Friday, October 1, 2010, following a short illness. Betty was born on April 17, 1927, on the family farm in Richmond, Michigan, in a Spring blizzard on Easter Sunday; youngest child of William and Emma (Grubb) Harmon. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Earl and George, and her sister, Alice. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Muttonville, Michigan. She attributed her strength and strong family convictions to her Christian upbringing and her Lutheran faith. She was a devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church, Gaylord and Our Savior Lutheran Church, St. Petersburg, Florida. Betty attended Richmond schools, worked for J.L. Hudson, Co., and then met and married her best friend and life partner, Don Asher on June 26, 1948 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Muttonville, Michigan. Betty raised her family as she worked with her husband in a family business in Deckerville, Michigan until their retirement. They moved to Gaylord, Michigan in 1981. In her retirement, Betty worked part-time at Helen's Hallmark in Gaylord for over twenty years. Since moving to Gaylord they have divided their busy lives between family and friends in their homes in Gaylord, Michigan and Treasure Island, Florida. Betty was a strong, no-nonsense classy lady who always told it "like it is". Betty loved and took great pride in her family. She was the ultimate homemaker, hostess and entertainer. She loved to travel with Don to visit warm places and old friends. She loved her family and home; working in her yard and fussing over her flowers and "little garden". She was a devoted grandmother; serving up lots of love with life lessons. Betty is survived by her husband, Don; six children, Lynn (Cal) Laughlin of Lexington, Gail (George) Innis of Deckerville, Patti (Burt) Cowan of Port Sanilac, Donna (Mark) Randall of Gaylord, Tom of Port Sanilac, and Jane (Tom) Reaney of San Tee, CA; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother Claude Harmon of North Branch; sister-in-law, Rosemary Asher of Alma; many special nieces and nephews; and her dear flower-girl Sharon (Krimmel) Jenkens of Richmond. I am so sorry to hear of your lost. Even though I didn't know your mom, I see her spirit in her children. Patti, Tom, Lynn and Gail... you are the ones that I know and have had the priviledge over the years to become acquainted with... you are your mothers children, remember that when you look in the mirror everyday.. stay strong... smile with happy memories and an awesome upbringing that along with your dad gave you... take care.
