David W. Orr

David W. Orr Grosse Ile David W. Orr, age 48 of Grosse Ile, MI, passed away on February 20, 2011 at Port Huron Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. David was born May 12, 1962 in Port Huron to the late Nancy and John Orr. He graduated in 1980 from Port Huron Central High School. On June 28, 1986 he married his sweetheart, Melanie Assaf, in Port Huron. They made their home in Grosse Ile, where they raised their two sons. David was the most loving husband and father. David owned and operated a residential and commercial remodeling company. He was an avid hunter, sharing that passion with his two sons and many of his closest friends. David also loved to sail, and participated in numerous Port Huron to Mackinac races. He was loved for his kindness, gentleness, quick wit and ready smile. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Melanie; his two sons, CSSN Nicholas Orr (Norfolk, VA), and John Robert Orr of Grosse Ile; sister-in-law, Leslie (Reynaldo Torres) Assaf of Columbus Ohio; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Susan) Assaf of Grosse Pointe, Tim Assaf of Dexter. He is also survived by aunts and uncles; Jean and Ray Campbell, Helen Carr, David and Dorothy Carr, Dan and Sandy Carr, Edith Mary and Paul Carr, Jack and Marie Theriault. There will be a gathering on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 21599 Parke Lane, Grosse Ile, MI. 48138.
