Mary (Veronica) Burns Vikstrom

Mary (Veronica) Burns Vikstrom, 94, peacefully passed away on June 27, 2021.
She was born in Riley Township, Michigan on October 23, 1926, to the late James Stephen and Nellie Agnes (LaFever) Burns. She graduated from Memphis High School in 1944. During her school years, she was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and worked on the school paper which was very enjoyable and important to her. After graduating from high school, she married John "Art" Vikstrom from Richmond, Michigan, and lived for a time on Masters Rd near her parent's farm before moving into Memphis with her family. During her early adult years, Mary enjoyed bowling immensely and was on a bowling team for many years. She was also busy raising her four children, involved as a troop leader in her daughters' Girl Scout troop and also attended little league games cheering for her son. She enjoyed playing cards especially Euchre and double deck Pinochle with family and friends. While living in Houston, Texas, she continued being an avid euchre fan and partnered up with her grandson, Rob, to go almost undefeated playing against her two daughters on every holiday and birthday get-together. She also enjoyed a long working career in various fields such as real estate, the medical field, secretarial, and small businesses before retiring and moving to Houston, Texas.
Mary was preceded in death by; husband John "Art" Vikstrom; Siblings: Margaret Elizabeth (Burns) Kinney; Marie Agnes Burns; Leonard (Leo) James Burns; James Thomas Burns; Francis Stephen Burns; Edward Harry Burns, and William (Bill) Burns.
Surviving siblings: Nellie Eustacia (Burns) Sunde; Theresa Winifred (Burns) Gundlach; Catherine Ann (Burns) Edwards; Gerald Patrick Burns.
Surviving children include Ingrid Doloris (Vikstrom) Javor, Carl Eric Vikstrom, Barbara Ann Vikstrom, and Patricia Mary (Vikstrom) Foster.
There are numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many close lifelong friends, in particular Jack and Bev Stoliker.
Since moving to Texas, Mary was a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, Houston, Texas, prior to that her home church was Holy Family in Memphis Michigan. Your prayers and/or a request for a mass intention on her behalf are welcome.
