Nicholas Rector Obituary

Nicholas Eugene Rector Speaker Township Nicholas Eugene Rector, 81, of Speaker Township, Sanilac County, died Friday afternoon, May 8, 2009, at St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron Hospital. He was born Wednesday, September 21, 1927, in Flint the son of the late Hugh Maurice and Thelma (Moody) Rector. His marriage of 51 years to Mary Elizabeth Needham was May 23, 1953, in Lincoln Park. Mary died Saturday, May 1, 2004. Nick was a lifelong Speaker Township farmer on a 171-year-old centennial family farm. He was also a journeyman welder for Levy's, Riverview, Travco of Brown City, and Gemco (Ametek) of Peck. He was a member of Brockway Masonic Lodge #316, former member of Shriners International, and loved playing euchre and spending time with family and friends. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Tom Higgins, Cathy and Kevin Davis, Beth and Shawn Burns and son Nicholas (Loretta Derrick) Rector, all of Yale; seven grandchildren, Mike Higgins, Katie Higgins, Kristie (Richard) Newton, Jacob and Kara Henshaw, Andrew and Sarah Burns; four great-grandchildren, Emerald, Maggie, Morgan and Blake; two sisters, Jean (Frank) Bush of Yale and Mary Joyce (Herb) Hillman of Croswell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Lowell Peacock of Gibraltar and Lawrence and Wanda Needham of Burnsville, MN; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. His family honors the memory of Nick and invites you to visit and share Tuesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale, with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with 10:00 a.m. visiting. The Rev. Phil Schamehorn of Ft. Wayne, IN, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Fremont Township Cemetery, Fremont Township. Memorials are suggested to "Wishes of the Family."
