Pete Dimmer Obituary

Pete Dimmer Pete Dimmer, 65, left us on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, surrounded by his family. Pete was more than an amazing dad, and husband, he was an amazing person. His influence throughout the community is one that he never advertised, but one that was undoubtedly recognized. Pete was known for his love for his community and his love for his work at Mercy Hospital, and he enjoyed volunteering his time. He was also known for his sincere compassion in meeting and for truly knowing people at work, socially and at 'the beach' at Ipperwash, where he was often referred to as "The Mayor." Pete loved to tinker and was always on the lookout for something that needed to be fixed, whether at 'the beach' or at home, he was always willing to lend a hand. He never traveled anywhere without running into someone he knew. From the States to abroad, it was inevitable his social 'circle' would coincide with his journeys. His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, friends and pups, Ben and Gus. Pete is survived by his wife, Stacey Wilde Dimmer (Potthoff); son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Jessica Dimmer; and daughter and son-in-law, and Megan Dimmer and Chris Roczm and their son, his grandson, John. Please join us at a Memorial Open House to celebrate Pete's life at Quay Street Brewery, 330 Quay Street, Port Huron, MI, 48060 on Sunday June 24, 2012 from 12 - 3 p.m. A memorial tribute will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Max Amstutz officiating. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans. Arrangements are by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St., Port Huron. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to one of three charities: The TGen Pancreatic Foundation (tgen.org/pancreatic), The Mercy Cancer (mercyporthuron.com) or Blue Water Hospice (www.vnabwh.com) www.smithfamilyfuneralhome.com

I have known Pete for awhile now while working at Mercy one day we were talking about highschools, and come to find out I went to school with you Stacy in Rochester. Pete had me bring in my yearbook and we checked out pictures of you and he smiled. He always had a way to bring humor to any situation, telling jokes and always no matter how busy he was would stop and talk for a moment. Stacy I'm sorry I posted late didn't realize there was online posting. But my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. GOD BLESS!

I knew Pete from the cottage and had the pleasure of speaking with him a few times. You could tell right away was a great guy Pete was, very friendly and down to earth.

I'd like to express my sincere condolences to the family. He'll be missed.

I will always feel blessed to of known this man. I worked with him at Mercy Hospital. His door was always open to talk and listen. I will miss him. Even when I left Mercy I would call and talk to him about downriver events as he graduated from Allen Park and me from Lincoln Park

We will always remember Pete for being a terrific person and an outstanding supervisor. He was always smiling and ready to jump in to help, whether it was jumping up to help carry groceries at the house, or diving in to help solve a problem at work. The world has lost a wonderful man.
Stacey, our thoughts are with you.

I was lucky enough to work for Pete for 16 years at Mercy Rehab. He was the best boss I ever had. He was kind and caring. He made sure things were always "equitable"(which was one of his favorite words) He was loved and respected by all his staff. I never heard him raise his voice no matter how much I tried his patience! His door was always open.
My fondest memories of Pete are of him dancing to "I don't want to work" at the Christmas parties surrounded by his staff who loved him so dearly.
I left Mercy about 4 years ago but I have kept Pete and my Mercy family close to my heart. I will cherish those memories forever.
My thoughts are with his beloved family who he held so dear.

Pete was the most awesome boss I ever had ! He was willing to give me a chance even though I had been out of the field of occupational therapy for 20 years! Oh, Pete, you were definitely one of the good guys! You will be sorely missed by many! My sincerest condolences to your family and loved ones!

Pete was a fraternity brother of mine (Theta Xi) at Wayne State between 1966-68. For a time, we lived together at the Theta Xi house on West Canfield, right across the street from the Traffic Jam. Pete was a good guy and well respected by his fraternity brothers. Periodically, I saw Pete at reunions over the years, but I was shocked to hear of his passing. Please accept my heartful condolences.

I met Pete while I was working for Mercy Hosp as a Biomed Tech. He would always smile whith a pleasent greeting and sometimes hold a nice upbeat and positive conversation. I always teased him because to me, he looked like Mich Miller from the "Sing along with Mich" show of the late 50's & early 60's. I will miss but always remember his pleasant smile.
My condolences go to the family and everyone he touched.

Pete was incredible man! His smile was infectious & he was always concerned for others. I saw Pete regularly in the hallways at SJMPH & he always stopped to chat or tell a joke. I am so saddened for the loss we will feel at SJMPH without Pete amongst us. My deepest condolences to his family. I will certainly miss his smile & will never forget him. RIP Pete.

I have known Pete since our boys were only 5 years old. We worked together for many years at Oakdale and he was by far the best boss and co-worker you could ever have. As we moved on in our careers, I always used his supervision skills as a model for me. Although I haven't seen or talked to him in almost 20 years, I have thought of him many, many times. As I read the many posts here, it is very obvious that he never changed. RIP Pete, you will be missed.

Unfortunately, I never was able to get to know Pete that well. He hired me last fall to work in the PT department and I am forever grateful for that. Soon after he hired me, he became ill so I was never able to experience the kind of boss I hear so much about. I have never heard anything negative about him and I wish I was able to get to know him better. My prayers are with him and his family.

Dear Pete - thank you for the person you were. You will always be with us. Pete was probably the best supervisor I had while working at Oakdale in Lapeer. We had many great fishing trips - mostly trips and not "catching." It was always great to be around you. Blessings to your family and friends .

I knew Pete for many years through Mercy Hospital. We worked very close on many projects. Someone once asked him if he was related to me (Dimmer/Demeter) and we always joked about that. I called him Bro and he called me Sis. My daughter worked in the rehab dept while on co-op from school. She loved Pete as much as I did. He always asked about her, saying "How's the kid doing?" even though she is now 37 years old. I will miss his quick wit, his smile and his genuine concern for everyone. He was a truly wonderful man. Please accept our condolences for your loss. Lynda
