Scott Hawley Obituary
Fort Gratiot
Scott A. Hawley MD, age 62 of Fort Gratiot passed away on August 1, 2015 after an almost 7 year battle with Prostate Cancer. He was born to Carol and the late Willard Hawley on January 30th, 1953 in Ionia, MI.
Scott married his high school sweetheart, Susan, on August 17th, 1974 and was a devoted husband, dad, and grandfather (Boppa). He is survived by his wife Susan and his 3 children Jennifer (Brian) Psciuk of Stamford, CT, Nathan (Kelsey Leveille) Hawley of Madison, WI, and Rebecca (Kevin) Gleason of Clinton Twp, MI. He was also an incredible grandfather to his 3 young grandsons; Landon Psciuk and Brayden & Liam Gleason. In addition, he was survived by his mother Carol, brothers Dave and Matt, sister Mary (Randy) Miller, and brother-in-law Ken (Sara) Haines, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Scott graduated from Michigan State University in 1975 with honors then began his path to medical school at Wayne State University, graduating in 1979, residency followed with a specialty in pediatrics/internal medicine at St. John's Hospital completed in 1983. Scott and Susan then accepted a position at Children's Health Care of Port Huron with Dr. Daniel Wilhelm and Dr. John Zmiejko. They chose to reside in Fort Gratiot and have lived in the same home for the past 32 years building their family and assisting in several community foundations.
Scott had a true passion for sports, outdoor activities, and photography; and loved his cottage in the Upper Peninsula that has been in the family since 1931. FAMILY was everything to him and he was the ROCK that kept us all together. Saturdays in the fall consisted of tailgates and Michigan State football games as he may have been the biggest Spartan fan ever!
He was an amazing man and will be deeply missed by many.
The funeral service will take place at 1 PM Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church, 1213 6th Street with The Rev. Lydia Speller officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street. There will also be visitation at church on Wednesday beginning at 12 noon.

Dr. Hawley was very kind and compassionate. He is the one who found my son's defective heart valve when he was 10 and if not for Dr. Hawley my son may not even be here today!! We will forever be thankful.

We will never forget the time he stitched up My brother's hand after a baseball incident and Nate was feeding us other kids candy- knowing from that point on how wonderful the whole Hawley Family is. Dr. Hawley was the doctor for my 2 sons when they were children. Couldn't have made it through those critical years without him. He was truly a compassionate, caring, up-front man when it came to my children's care. And his humor at times was an added blessing helping my sons and I to feel comfortable. This news saddens me terribly. Dr. Hawley was the best. He diagnosed my daughter at 5 days old & sent us straight to St. John's Hospital that saved her life. She will soon be turning 15 and has never seen another Dr. His compassion & concern was one of a kind. My prayers for comfort to his family which he was extremely proud of.. I'm truly at a loss for words we'll never find a Doctor like him.

I saw Dr. Hawley just a few months ago for my son who he has seen for over 13 years. What amazes me is even though he was going through this sickness he still continued to practice and always took that extra time with his patients and families. Our family is so saddened by Dr. Hawley's passing. The first time I met him, I was hooked on his bedside manner. He was calm, reassuring, and took time to answer my many questions. I was a young mom when he called to confirm our son's diagnosis of hemophilia 29 years ago. He spent so much time researching and calling other specialists, he inspired me to seek out more education as well. He always spoke so lovingly of his children, it was apparent his family was the center of his universe. My heartfelt condolences and prayers to his wife and children. He was an amazing,compassionate Dr. He saved my son life more then 28 years ago. After endless visits to the office with my son being horribly sick, I asked to see Dr. Hawley he took one look at my son and he knew what was wrong. We would often talk hockey as my son played and he always made time and connected with his patient and families... He will be sadly missed.
