Alice Yancey Obituary


BURLINGTON - Mrs. Alice Arlene Yancey, 71, of 2739 McKinney Street, died November 2, 2009 at the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Collie Watkins and Mrs. Maggie Robertson-Perkins of Alton, Va.
She joined White Oak Fork Baptist Church in Virgilina, Va. at an early age then moved to Roxboro, N.C. where she attended Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She then moved to Burlington, N.C. where she moved her membership to New Covenant United Holy Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir, Usher Board, Missionary Circle and Pastor's Aide. She was also a devoted mother of the D.I.T.A. Ministries (Dancing In The Anointing) and one of the Mothers of the RBIFC (Ron Bigelow and The Interdenominational Choir).
Retired from Burlington Industries after 20 years of service, she was a private care-giver for many years, a true prayer warrior, loved helping people and loved nothing more than her family.
Survivors include her stepfather, Tyree O. Perkins of Alton, Va.; two sons, Buster A. Yancey Jr. of Greensboro, N.C. and Clarence E. Yancey (Doretha) of Burlington, N.C.; three daughters, Veader R. Pulliam and Mary R. Russell, both of Roxboro, N.C. and Tracey Y. Poteat (Tim) of Burlington, N.C.; three sisters, Dorothy M. King of Virgilina, Va., Gladys G. Banks and Mary P. Hilliard, both of Roxboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The public viewing will be Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 3 until 8 p.m. at Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington. At other times the family will receive visitors and friends at the home.
The funeral will be Friday, November 6, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at New Covenant United Holy Church with Bishop Harry Cohen delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington, N.C.
