He was born April 29, 1932, in Forsyth County, to the late Andy Victor Shields and the late Shellie Motsinger Shields. He spent 36 years of service at Kayser-Roth Hosiery Corporation as the Director of Research and Development and the Machine Shop. He loved his Lord and Savior and was a member at Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed worshipping through his music, singing and playing the guitar.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Shields; two daughters, Karen Greeson (Kenneth) and Melea Breashears; and one son, Kevin Shields (Lora); nine grandchildren, Shaun Greeson, Katina Rappaport, Tara Evans, Daniel Denton, Jordan Denton, Crystal Payne, Christopher Breashears, Troy Breashears, and Jonathon Shields; 20 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Sadie Craven and Bobbie Scott.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Oakley; and grandson, William Bradley Greeson; brothers, Wyatte Shields and Jack Shields; and sisters, Margarite Marby and Aniece Todd.
Funeral services will be held at New Covenant Fellowship Church, 1913 Rogers Road, Graham, NC, at 3 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, by his grandson, the Rev. Shaun Greeson, and the Rev. Don Pegg.
