R. Swiggett Jr. Obituary
Born on September 8, 1932 he was the son of the late Robert Horace Swiggett Sr. and Dovie White Swiggett. He was married for 57 years to Margaret Jarrett Swiggett, who survives. Mr. Swiggett was a graduate of Duke Law School, was a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, Alamance County Bar Association, Academy of Trial Lawyers of the Carolinas, and a member of the 50 Years North Carolina Attorneys. In previous years he practiced in Guilford and Alamance counties.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Margaret, in their motor home on numerous trips to visit with family members. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and a member of the "OO" Hunt Club.
Mr. Swiggett is survived by his wife, of the home; sons, Robert Horace Swiggett III of Burlington, M. Dale Swiggett and wife Cindy of New Bern, N.C., and David M. Swiggett and wife Jackie of Crystal River, Fla.; a daughter, Rebecca "Becky" and husband Craven Mitchell of Farmer City, Ill.; grandchildren, Julie Hope Swiggett, Daniel Swiggett, Matt Swiggett, Timothy Swiggett, Nathan Swiggett, Scott Swiggett, Trey Mitchell and Cody Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Hailey Swiggett, Alexis Swiggett and Alistair Swiggett.
He was preceded in death by three sisters; Lois Hightower, Doris Kerr, and Bobbie McGuire.
The funeral service will be will be conducted at 2 p.m. January 22, 2010 at Northside Presbyterian Church by Pastor Jim Mitchell. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215 or the charity of one's choice.

My sympathies to the Swiggett family, I lived with Becky in Wilmington during her college days. I regret this is late, I just received word. Becky your dad, as you know, was an awesome person and I know he will be missed tremendously! I wish I could have been there for you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Margaret and family: You and Horace have been our friends for over half a century. I treasure and venerate the memories of Horace, a true Renaissance Man (the last time we were together he solved an engineering problem for me yet!).

Margaret and family, We are here in Ft. Myers and have decided to drive tomorrow and be in Burlington for the Funeral on the January 22, 2010.
We felt that it is only the right thing to do since you both were such dear friends and had wonderful family.
