Ray Daye Obituary

Ray Winfred Daye, 44, passed away Aug. 23, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Warren's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 14769 NC 86 South, Prospect Hill, N.C. with the Rev. Robbie Bynum officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at noon, one hour prior to the service.
Visitation will be held from 2 until 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Hester Whitted and Daye Funeral Chapel in Hillsborough, N.C.
Ray was born Nov. 14, 1969, in Chapel Hill, N.C., to the late Deacon Eddie Sylvene Daye and Odessa Torain Daye, who survives. He attended Orange County Public Schools, graduating in 1988 from Orange High School. He married Revonda Michelle Hurdle on Sept. 6, 2003.
Ray enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after graduation and was based at the Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville, Fla. He served his country from 1989 to 1993 on the naval ship, USS Doyle (FFG 39) and upon being honorably discharged, he returned to North Carolina to be with his family and friends.
Ray was employed in Hillsborough, N.C. as a store manager at Vietri, Inc. for 14 years, where he gained respect from his co-workers and they all worked together as a family unit. He loved his job and the Vietri family and it was evident that they felt the same towards him.
Ray was preceded in death by his grandparents, Allen and Maude Daye and Robert and Hallie Torain; father, Eddie Sylvene Daye; brother, Edward B. Daye; daughter, Nia Rae Daye.
He leaves to cherish his memory forever, his wife, Revonda Michelle Daye, of the home; son, Joshua Hughes of Danville, Va.; daughter, Rayla Johnson-Daye of Hyde Park, Mass.; mother, Odessa L. Daye; sister, Anita M. Daye ,both of Hillsborough, N.C.; mother-in-law, Lessie M. Hurdle of Burlington, N,C,; brothers-in-law, Anthony Hurdle (Angela) of Graham, N.C. and Curtis Tinnin of Stamford, Conn.; sister-in-law, Yvette Slade (Don); very special nieces, Antana Hurdle of Graham, N.C., Candice Daye of Newport News, Va. and Aliyah Holt of Chapel Hill, N.C.; aunts, Catherine Cotton, Katherine Johnson and Annie B. Southern; uncles, Dr. Linwood T. Daye and Lucious Daye; and a host of family members and friends.
Hester Whitted and Daye Funeral Service is in charge of the funeral services for Ray Winfred Daye.
