Richard Dodson Obituary

Richard "Rick" Taylor Dodson, 61, of Burlington, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at his home after a 5 ½ year battle with Appendiceal Cancer.

A native of Alamance County, Rick was the husband of Deborah "Debbie" Hiller Dodson, his high school sweetheart, whom he married in 1980. Rick was the son of the late J. Richard "Dick" Dodson and Rebecca "Becky" Kernodle Dodson, who survives.

In addition to his wife Debbie, Rick is survived by his three girls whom were the light of his life, Kelly Dodson Carter and her husband, Mitch, of Burlington, Kathryn "Katy" Dodson of Atlanta and Karin Dodson of Washington, DC; two grandbabies which he adored, Avery Carter and Aiden Carter; a sister, Susan York and her husband, Gerald, of Burlington and a brother, Mark Dodson and his wife, Jennifer, of Burlington.

Rick graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was a partner with Williams Overman Pierce, LLP in Greensboro. Rick is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant, the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Greensboro Community Television, Inc, a member of the Board of Guilford Technical Community College, and Treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of Greensboro.

Rick is a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where he is Chairman of the Church Finance committee, a member of the Administrative Council, the Scholarship Committee, Past-President of the United Methodist Men and member of the church choir.

All who know him are inspired by the love he shares for Christ, his "four girls", his precious grandbabies, the UNC Tarheels, and the sometimes frustrating game of golf. His integrity, compassion, attention to detail, and loyalty shines through in everything he does and lives on in his family and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 1, 2019 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington. Other times they will be at the home.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Fairview United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. S. Mark Clark. A private burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the General Fund of Fairview United Methodist Church, 3128 Osceola Rd, Elon, NC 27244 or to the Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation (ACPMP), 6415 Granger Road, Suite 200, Independence, OH 44131.

The family would like to thank all their family and friends for their overwhelming show of love and support . They would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Janek Choksi and Dr. Govinda Brahmanday and the nurses at the Cancer Center at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Dodson family,
We were surprised and saddened to read Ricky's obit. He was always a nice, precise, and helpful person. With his friends, Elliot Faucette and Michael Ross, we had a wonderful year. They would lead our sing-alongs and short devotions. I was Ricky's third grade teacher. We were all learning together: they were learning 3rd grade material and I was learning to "keep up with" thirty-three students!--my first year teaching 1966-67!!!
With deepest sympathy,
Kay and Bill Booe
