Richard Loy Obituary

HAW RIVER - Richard W. "Skip" Loy Jr., husband of Pamela Isley Loy, died at his home in Haw River on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014. He was born August 22, 1951, in Liberty, N.C., son of the late Richard W. Loy and Deleano Hall Williams, who survives.
In 1960 the family moved to Mebane, N.C., where Skip attended school and graduated from Eastern Alamance High School with the class of 1969. He attended Elon College and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Business Administration. He married Pam Isley of Haw River on May 26, 1973.
Skip's business career included positions as purchasing agent for Serta Corporation in Greensboro, Memorial Hospital in Burlington, UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, and warehouse and materials manager for PHE in Chapel Hill until retirement. After retiring he formed an RV cleaning company and established it at Emerald Isle, N.C. He managed and operated it for 10 years until it was sold in 2010.
Skip was an active member of First Baptist Church of Haw River, having served as a deacon and an active volunteer with the Youth and Senior groups. He was a member of the choir and sang with Harmonizers Quartet, jokingly called "the Harmonizers Quartet with Five Members." He and his wife, Pam, organized and managed a free clothing ministry at their church which soon outgrew the available space and was relocated to Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church in Burlington where it was renamed "God's Community Closet." This project is one example of their many concerns for people in need. Another of their projects, Helping Hands, is a special ministry at First Baptist of Haw River. He was a member of the Patient Advisory Board of UNC Memorial Hospital and a member of the Alamance Council of the Blind and the Federation of the Blind.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Pam Loy; his mother and stepfather, Deleano and Nelson Williams of Burlington; sisters, Mary Ann Loy of Wilson and Carolyn Loy of Mebane; stepbrother Peter Williams Stroud, of Atlanta, Ga.; a "special cousin" Ellen Heider (John) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; mother-in-law Dot Isley and father-in-law (deceased), Hal Isley, of Haw River; sisters-in-law Debby Isley Owens (Jerry) of Saint George, S.C. and Kathy Isley of Haw River; brothers-in-law Randy Isley of Graham and Toby Isley (Vonnie) of Haw River. He leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews: Emily Keye (Matt) of Mebane; Teri Mahon (Guy) of Burlington; Russell Danford (Leslie) of Marietta, Ga.; Rob Danford (Elise) of Palm Coast, Fla.; Wende Reynolds (John) of Charleston, S.C.; Melanie Getling (Will) of Graham; Matt Isley (Beth) of Wake Forest; Ryan Isley (Shannon) of Burlington; David Owens (Angelia) of Columbia, S.C.; Boyd Owens (Leah) of Saint George, S.C.; and a special young friend of the family, Nicholas, of Haw River; and his lifelong friend since childhood, Bobby Estler of Florida. There are also numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Skip's life will be held Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Haw River. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall adjacent to the Sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers any donations in his memory may be made to the Helping Hands Fund of First Baptist Church of Haw River, 508 E. Main St., Haw River, N.C. 27258 or to the Burlington Lions Club, P.O. Box 491, Burlington, NC 27215.
Arrangements are by McClure Funeral and Cremation Service in Graham.
