Mrs. Barbara Jean
Smith "Granny Cubby"
Walker, age 86, passed
away Saturday, Sept. 13,
2025, at her home.
Born Sept. 20, 1938, in
Stephens County, she was
the daughter of the late Os-
car Alexander and Amie
Lee Kimbrell Smith.
Mrs. Walker grew up in
Westminster (Old Madison
Community), S.C., then
moved to Toccoa where
she has called home since
1960 when she married
Obra Melvin Walker. She
was a member of Old Lib-
erty Baptist Church in
Westminster, S.C.
Mrs. Walker graduated
from Cleveland High in
1957. She attended Pied-
mont College from 1957
-1960, majored in Chem-
istry and minored in
Home Economics. She was
the owner/operator of The
Ranch Drive-In from 1972
-2010. Her hobbies includ-
ed spending time with her
family, cooking, baking,
sewing, crafting and being
a Sarah Coventry Jewelry
Consultant for many
years. Barbara and her
husband, Obra Walker,
with the help of their fami-
ly, ran the Obra Walker
Poultry Farm.

son; great-grandchildren,

ens, John Michael Nixon,
Jr. "JJ", Dawson Smith,
Sadie Smith, Brooks Marie
Powell, Colson Simmons,
Ridge Simmons, Peyton
Yergin, Archer Yergin,
Rowan Yergin, Avery
Dickinson and Rhiannon
Dickinson; sister, Linda
Smith Austin (John); and
numerous nieces,
nephews, brothers-in-law
and sisters-in-law.
In addition to her par-
ents, she was preceded in
death by her husband,
Obra Walker; and broth-
ers, Oscar Lee Smith and
William Alexander Smith.
The family will receive
friends at the mortuary
from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept.
19, 2025, and from 12 p.m.
until the service time on
Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025.
Funeral services will be
held from the Chapel of
Whitlock Mortuary at 2
p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20,
2025, with the Rev. Ronnie
Collins and Mr. Parker
Garrett officiating.
Burial will follow at Old
Liberty Baptist Church
Cemetery.
The following gentle-
men will serve as pallbear-
ers: Seth Collins, Grant
Dawson, Walker Garrett,
Parker Garrett, John
Michael Nixon, Jr. "JJ",
and Elijah Pickens. Hon-
orary pallbearers are Ron-
nie Collins, Kenneth Gar-
rett, Kendall Dawson,
Chris Colwell and Craig
Dickinson.
The family would like
