Jo Camp, age 87, of At-
lanta, Ga., died quietly in
her sleep on Aug. 25, 2025,
at the PebbleBrook Facili-
ty within the Park Springs
Community of Stone
Mountain, following a
long, hard-fought battle
with lung cancer.
Jo was a devoted wife
and loving mother. She is
survived by her baby sis-
ter, Bette Myers; three
children, Barrey Camp, of
Decatur, Ga., Lynda Har-
mon (Mike), of North Car-
olina, Terri Smith (Andy),
of South Carolina; eight
grandchildren; Lauren
Ravenel (Henry), Ryan
Camp (Kateland), Stanton
Camp, Gabrielle Camp,
Joanna Harmon, Jared
Swilley, Christina Am-
ateau (Todd), Haley Shep-
ard (Jon), and seven great-
grandchildren.
Jo was born April 3,
1938, in Dillard, Ga., the
ninth of 11 children born
to Dora (Watts) and Ed-
ward Bryson, a small busi-
ness owner and the Rabun
County Coroner. Jo met
her husband, Ben, while
in high school and they
married when Jo was 17.
After graduation, Ben and
Jo moved to Atlanta in
1953, and Jo called Atlanta
home until her passing.
By age 23, Jo was a mother
of three small children.
She was an involved and
active mom, serving on
different school commit-
tees and attending sports
and extracurricular activi-
ties regularly.
In addition to her role
as wife and mom, Jo was
also a successful en-
trepreneur in her own
right. She had a timeless
sense of style and kept up
with the trends, even in
her 80's. Her natural tal-
ent and love of beauty led
her to study interior de-
sign, ultimately outfitting
many commercial office
spaces in the Atlanta area.
She traveled the world and
had a love for fine art,
rugs, paintings, furniture,
etc. In 1985 Jo opened and
managed LaTour, a well-
established fine-dining
French restaurant that
was a staple in Buckhead
for 10 years. While main-
taining her own successful
business, Jo also support-
ed her husband Ben
throughout his long-stand-
ing manufacturing career.
Jo lived a busy and vi-
brant life. She enjoyed a
long membership at Druid
Hills Golf Club, where she
was an active tennis play-
er. Jo valued family and
always had a story to tell
about her parents, her sib-
lings, her own children
and grandchildren. Her
memory was bright and
sharp, even in her last
months. Faith was a huge
part of Jo's life and her re-
lationship with the Lord is
what gave her strength to
fight the many physical
battles she faced in her
lifetime. She was a long-
time member of Briarlake
Baptist Church, where she
taught Sunday School and
served on various commit-
tees. Jo loved God and His
word. In her later years,
when church attendance
was difficult, she began
the practice of listening to
online sermons each night
at bedtime and she prayed
for her loved ones by
name. Her legacy of faith
lives on in her family.
