Mrs. Sarah Joyce
Rogers Gregory, age 88, of
North Avenue, East-
anollee, passed away Fri-
day, Jan. 19, 2024 at the
Stephens County Hospital.
A daughter of the late
Vaughn Richard Rogers
and Pearl Barron Rogers,
she was born Sept. 29, 1935
in Habersham County,
Ga., having lived in
Stephens County, Ga. most
of her life. She was a grad-
uate of Stephens County
High School. She received
a bachelor's degree from
Piedmont College, mas-
ter's degree from the Uni-
versity of Georgia and a 6
year degree from Clemson
University. As an educa-
tor for the Stephens Coun-
ty School System, she
served as a teacher, guid-
ance counselor and after
retirement as a substitute
teacher. After retirement,
she volunteered numerous
hours to the Stephens
County Hospital Auxiliary
and gift shop, community
food bank and precinct
elections. She was also em-
ployed part-time at the
Georgia-South Carolina
Welcome Center.
Her hobbies included
flower gardening, quilt-
ing, painting, sewing,
beaded Christmas trees,
word search and sudoku.
Later in life, she took
lessons in playing the pi-
ano and dulcimer. She was
a dedicated grandmother
and first rate cattle farm
hand. She was a member
of Ebenezer Baptist
Church and the Encour-
agers small group.
In addition to her par-
ents, she was preceded in
death by her first hus-
band, Marvin Caudell, her
second husband, Ferman
Gregory, two brothers, Bil-
ly Rogers and Harold
Rogers and sister-in-law,
Maxine Rogers.
Survivors include her
daughter and son-in-law,
Susan and Rick Kesler of
Athens, Tenn.; five grand-
daughters and their hus-
bands, Lindsey and Travis
Ansel of Prospect, Ky.,
Katherine and Bill Dabbs
of Knoxville, Tenn., Haley
Kesler of Knoxville, Tenn.,
Hannah and Zach Dillon of
Black Mountain, N.C. and
Mia and Jake Taylor of
Knoxville, Tenn.; eight
great-grandchildren,
Aaron and Thomas Ansel,
Maggie and Jack Dabbs,
Forrest, Kit, Eli and Joan-
na Mozelle Dillon; sister
and brother-in-law, Sue
and Jim Hunnicutt of
Lavonia, Ga.; brother, Clif-
ford Rogers of
Watkinsville, Ga.; three
sisters-in-law, Linda
Rogers of Toccoa, Anne
Rogers of Eastanollee and
Jean Trotter of
Gainesville; a number of
nieces and nephews and
great-nieces and great-
nephews.
Funeral services were
held Monday, Jan. 22,
2024, at 11 a.m. at Ebenez-
er Baptist Church with the
Rev. Andy Childs and the
Rev. Jamie Smith officiat-
ing. The following gentle-
men served as pallbearers:
Aaron Ansel, Jerrell Beat-
ty, Michael Jarrett, Shan
Hunnicutt, Ricky Hames,
David Rogers and Danny
Rogers. Serving as hon-
orary pallbearers will be
the staff of Wilkinson Cen-
ter and special caregiver,
Helen Jarrett.
The family received
friends at the Acree-Davis
Funeral Home on Sunday,
Jan. 21, 2024, from 5-7 p.m.
