Catherine Tabor Obituary
Services for Dr. Catherine Ann Tabor will be at 10:00 o'clock AM on February 4, 2012, at Zion Hill Baptist church with Pastor Joshua Joy Dara officiating. She was born July 11, 1939 to the union of Rev. John Tabor and Ada Iles Tabor. She departed this life on January 22, 2012.
She was a teacher in the Rapides Parish School System for 38 years. Dr. Tabor graduated from Peabody High School in 1957, received a BS and M.Ed from Southern University, Baton Rouge and Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1984. After retiring she was later employed as Professor of Speech at LSUA. She was appointed as faculty member of the Academic Division for the Nationally Recognized Gospel Music Workshop of American, Inc. from 1990-2008, and a member of Alexandria Links Inc.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. John Tabor and Ada Iles Tabor, (sisters) Ella Lawson, Ada Doris Collins, Agnes Stokes, Florence Nash and Anna Lee Williams; (brothers) David Tabor and John Lee Tabor, (niece) Karen Lawson, (nephew) McKinley Williams III.
She is survived by her sister Edith Chambers (Henry) of Mexia, Texas, brother-in-law McKinley Williams Jr., eight nieces, nine nephews, 4 godchildren, a host of great nieces, nephews and a very close dear friend Barbara Curtis.
Burial will be in the Garden of Memories under the direction of Gonzaque Williams Mortuary.
Visitation will be from 8 AM until the time of the service.

I was privileged to have spent four years under the tutelage of Dr. Catherine Tabor while at Peabody Magnet High School. She challenged me as a Drama & Debate student to achieve excellence and to perfect the art of public speaking. I am truly grateful to God for having known such a phenomenal woman.
My condolences to the family of Dr. Catherine Tabor may God's grace be with during this time of grief.

Miss Tabor as I called her was my 9th grade English teacher at Jones Street Junior High, and she left fond memories for me as I ventured into high school. Everytime I ran into her through life, there was always a smile on her face. My sincere sympathy to all the family.

Dr. Tabor taught Speech classes at LSUA. She was such an inspirational influence and encouraged all students to go above and beyond what we thought we was capable of doing. Because of Dr. Tabor I am able to stand in front of an audience, speak fluently and with confidence.
