Eunice Lowe-Grimes Obituary

Eunice Allison Lowe-Grimes

12-24-17 - 08-30-13

Services celebrating the life of Eunice Grimes, age 95, will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013, 11:00 AM, Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, 624 Mill Street, Oakdale, Louisiana. A viewing will precede the funeral services at 9:00 AM, at the church, on the same day.

Following a forty-seven day period, between in patient care at Rapides Medical Center, Christus Dubuis Continuing Care Unit of Alexandria, she made her transition at 5:10 AM at Christus "Grace Home" Hospice and Palliative Care, of Alexandria, Louisiana, on August 30, 2013.

Eunice Grimes, the matriarch of her family, was referenced by many names:Mother, Dear, Mother Dear (which was reduced to Mah-Deah), Great-Grand, Mrs. Grimes, Dame Grimes, Duchess, Queen Woman, Mah or Mama Grimes. No matter what name you used, she would respond with a smile and cheerfully; making you think you were the most important person in her life and to her ~ you were.

Mrs. Grimes loved her church and supported it with her time, talent and energy. She was active in Sunday School, served as the Church Secretary until the age of ninety. She worked with the Missionary Society, was a member of the Educational Missionary Baptis Association and a deaconesses' emeritus. She was a very humble person who never referenced the numerous awards and accolades bestowed upon her for active participation in service. Her professional career lasted for thirty-three years as an administrator and teacher. She was always excited to see a former student and took every opportunity to be a teacher; she was a master story teller and a teacher for life. Through the years her former students always found time to visit and or call. In her eyes, all of her students were triumphant.

Being brilliant student, Eunice Lowe graduated with honors as valedictorian from high school (Booker T. Washington in Houston, Texas) and college (Leland College in Baker, Louisiana).

Henry and Eunice were wedded on February 6, 1937 and to this union were later born Bobbie (Barbara) Jean Grimes, Gwendolyn Marie Grimes, Juanita Inez Grimes, Henry Lee Grimes, Jr. (Shirley) and Hilda Beatrice Grimes.

Eunice is survived by her four children, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren: Her grandchildren are: Bridgette Renee Mason (of Chicago, Illinois), Marcia Rachel Arp Neal (of Yazoo, Mississippi) Cynthia Ann Weeks (Reginald of San Antonio, Texas), Henrietta Grimes and Hope Ann Grimes (of Mamou, Louisiana), and Blaine Tondrea Grimes (of Baton Rouge, Louisiana) and Matthew Scies (of Alexandria, Louisiana). Her Great

grandchildren are: Corey Nolan Lewis, Brandon Mason Lewis, Derrick Dwayne Caldwell, Ciara Rachel Caldwell, Alexander Henry Mason, Neal Jerome Arp II, Allison Hazel Arp, Barbara Jean Arp, Ayanna Brianne Weeks, James Lewis Weeks and Thomas Allen Atkins. Other relatives left to cherish her memory are her nephews, nieces, and an unmentionable number of relatives.

Born on the Eve of Christmas, Nineteen hundred and seventeen, Eunice A. Lowe Grimes, was the only daughter born to the union of Alma Beatrice Frazier and Elmer Lowe, Sr. in Fairs, Louisiana. Her brothers were Frederick Nathaniel Lowe, Elmer Lowe Junior III, and Henry Lee Lowe.

Other siblings born to her father were: Elmer Lowe, Jr., Frances Marie Lowe-Sims, and Joseph Edward Lowe of Beaumont, Texas.

Greeting her soul in the eternity of time are: her husband, Henry Lee Grimes, Sr; her second born child, Gwendolyn Marie Grimes; her parents, four brothers. A sister also awaits her in death.

Eunice Allison Lowe Grimes was the center of her family, for ninety-five years and will continue to be a vital part of their lives. She taught her children and her students through example rather than through words. She believed forgiveness and humbleness were to be treasured and thought loyalty and education would guide you through tough times.

Psalms 121 says, "I will look to the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from The Lord, which made heaven and earth." He will carry you through this transition; just look to Him. Memories of Mrs. Grimes will forever be cherished.
