Howard Swindler Obituary

Howard "Bubba" B. Swindler, Jr.

A Memorial Mass for Howard "Bubba" B. Swindler, Jr. will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014 at St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church in Cottonport with Fr. Ibey officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.

Visitation will be at Melancon Funeral Home in Bunkie on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014 from 10 a.m - 11:45 a.m.

Bubba, as he was affectionately known, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the age of 69, at his residence in Duson. He was a native of Cottonport and played football at Cottonport High School and went on to play college football at Northeast, now ULM. Bubba was retired from Noble Drilling and prior to his illness, he enjoyed woodworking. Many of the pieces he built are with family and friends. All who knew him would probably say he was quite a character. His sense of humor never left him. His battle with ALS has finally come to an end and he is now resting in peace in his eternal home.

He survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Sandra Tassin Swindler of Duson; one daughter, Shannon Swindler LaBorde and husband, Garry, of Madisonville; one son, Clay Swindler of Shreveport; five sisters, Marilyn MacMurdo and husband, Buck, of Baton Rouge, Fay Walker of Baton Rouge, Helen Feduccia and husband, Don, of Alexandria, Nancy Thevenot and husband, Herbert, of Bunkie and Stephanie Armand of Baton Rouge; one brother, David Swindler and wife, Eloise, of Evergreen and three grandchildren, Ethan Richard LaBorde, Ella Grace LaBorde and Caroline Shea Swindler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Alma Swindler and his sister, Suzanne Swindler Smith.

Honorary Pallbearers are Herbert Thevenot, Don Feduccia, Ronald Tassin, Donald Tassin, Herman Landry and Garry LaBorde.

The family would like to thank First Option Home Health for the care and compassion that was given to Bubba during his illness. Memorials may be made to the Gleason Initiative Foundation - P.O. Box 24493 - New Orleans, LA 70184 in memory of Bubba. www.melanconfunerals.com

I grew up next door to the Swindlers. Stephanie and I were best buddies as little children. Bubba was as close to Superman as I have ever witnessed. What a bigger than life guy? May he rest in peace. He was my hero! I am very sorry that I missed the funeral. [email protected]

He was hired as a Football Coach at Teurlings, but he produced one of the best basketball teams in the school's history. He had a gift for motivated people and touched the students and players in ways that influenced the rest of their lives. Rest in Peace Coach.
