Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in Melancon Funeral Home in Opelousas for Huey Thomassee, age 71, who passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 12:05 a.m. at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.

Interment will be in St. Leo the Great Cemetery in Leonville. Bro. Barry Geatreaux, pastor of Christian Tabernacle in Pine Prairie, will officiate at the services.

Mr. Thomassee was a native of Leonville and a resident of Opelousas and Oakdale. Huey worked as the President for Opelousas Loan, Inc. He was a parishioner of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. Mr. Thomassee served in the U.S. National Guard and the Merchant Marines.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Laura Thomassee of Oakdale; one daughter, Ursula Thomassee, and her mother, Cindy Thomassee, of Baton Rouge; one stepson, Roger Welsh, II, and wife, Mandy, of Cypress Creek; one stepdaughter, Natalie Deason and husband, Bo, of Burlington, Kentucky; one brother, Stafford Thomassee and wife, Gwin, of Eunice; one sister, Geri Lanclos and husband, Edmond, of Baton Rouge; and five grandchildren, Christine Sonnier, Rider Sonnier, Kale Potts, Lundy Potts and Ava Deason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie Thomassee and the former Hazel Speyrer.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Rider Sonnier, Corey West, Bo Deason, Randy Marks, John West, Bruce West and Jules Angelle. Honorary Pallbearers will be Freddie Thomassee, and Bo-Joseph Thomassee.
