Muriel Hilger Age 95, of Zimmerman and formerly of Simpson, passed away peacefully and delivered into our Lords hands on August 9, 2013 in her home. She was born Clara Muriel Parker in Simpson, Louisiana on October 28, 1917. The family later moved to Taylor Hill. Her first husband and she later purchased the old Zimmerman Saw mill town where she continued to live out the rest of her life.

Muriel is affectionately known to her family and friends as "MaTid". She was a gorgeous, loving woman, with a sharp wit and a warm heart. She was a peacemaker, believing that there was good in everybody. She had great empathy for the feelings of others and was mindful of the effect that her words and deeds might have on them. She was a wonderful role model, always acting with dignity and wisdom. Muriel was active in many church and benevolent organizations, a member of Sharp Church of God. Muriel logged thirty years as a volunteer with the Senior Corps of Rapides Council on Aging and was a columnist for The Senior News paper for many years. Her passion in life was her hobby of capturing history with her picture albums and scrapbooks.

Muriel is preceded in death by her father, Arthur; Mother, Bulah Jackson Parker; Brothers, Miles Parker, Jason Parker; Sisters, Erma Jameson, Shirley Tippitt; her husbands, William "Tid" Hilger and Dewy Phillips; son, William "Bill" Hilger, and grandson -in-law Joseph Lodridge.

She is survived by her son, Amel (Sandra) Hilger of Lena; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Beebe Hilger of Pasadena TX.; sisters, Lura (Don) Larkin of St. Marie Idaho, Mary Parker of Gardner; grandchildren, Jimmy (Connie) Hilger of Zimmerman, Jill (Woody) Wood of Lena, Mickey (Cindy) Hilger of Zimmerman, Brandt Hilger of Cotile, Amel Hilger Lodridge of Zimmerman, Chad Hilger of Pasadena TX., "Grandson" Bob Lodridge of Flatwoods, great-grandchildren, Courtney Gaspard (Garon), Tid Hilger, Kayla Hilger, Taylor Hilger, Sandra Wood, Jaime Lodridge, Amel A. Most of our contact with Ms. Hilger in the last couple of years was sending her books through Jeannie, but our favorite memory was when she came to our library Christmas party. She enjoyed everything, but seeing the children talking with Santa just made her smile even brighter. She had a great time letting them hear her ask Santa how the reindeer were, which totally convinced them it was the real Santa.
Miss Hilger you were a gift to us all!

Our deepest sympathy to the Hilger family. Miss Muriel was a wonderful friend to my grandmother, Elma Smith. She always looked forward to seeing her at family functions. She showed us what it was to be a true friend & Christian through her loving kindness to everyone. So glad I will be able to see her again one day in heaven. May God comfort you at this time.

Muriel P. Hilger not only loved her God, but she lived the best Christian life of anyone I've ever known. She was never judgmental of people, never spoke badly of anyone, was humerous and fun-loving, and gave from her heart. She will be missed by all whose lifes she touched. Evelyn Moulder.
