Suzanne Kondratenko Obituary

Compassion for a Child
Suzanne Kondratenko, 27, of Chicago, was the third of eight daughters born over the course of 23 years. She had a sweet spot for her youngest sister, Paige, now 9, who has Down syndrome.

"Paige was, I think, one of Suzanne's greatest joys," said one of Ms. Kondratenko's older sisters, Aimée.

"She learned how to walk at the age of 8, right before Suzanne was killed," Aimée Kondratenko said. "That was just one of Suzanne's most exciting moments. When she learned from our parents that Paige had done certain things, she would dash around the office and tell her girlfriends."

Paige and Suzanne had deep similarities, including a silly sense of humor and a love of books. Family members enjoyed the loving and happy energy they shared, Aimée Kondratenko said.

Suzanne Kondratenko was a senior consultant with Keane Consulting Group, flying to New York weekly to work with Aon Corporation at the World Trade Center. Since Sept. 11, Paige has helped the family cope with their loss, Aimée said.

"To this day," she said, "she'll take your face in her hands and try to make you smile."

Suzanne was generous, kind, fiercely intelligent, and beautiful in every way that a person can be beautiful. We spent four intense years together as part of the Class of 1992 at a very small high school in Michigan. She was one of those rare girls who was too mature and gracious for the typical teenage drama and treated everyone with consideration. She was universally adored. I thought the world of her and wish so much that I had told her that. One of my most vivid memories is of us singing (or at least she was singing as she had a lovely voice) "Forever Young" together in the Sacred Heart chapel as juniors. I have no doubt that she climbed the "ladder to the stars" mentioned in that song . . . Thank you Suzanne for bringing so much goodness to my life, especially at a time that is often filled with cruelty. You will always be in my heart.

Suzanne, I don't always know the best way to honor your memory. I love you and miss you. Sarah

Just after Christmas 1990 My wife Jeri and I had dinner at the Kondratenko family home in Michigan where I was introduced to most of the Kondratenko family including Susanne who was around 16 years old. There simply were too many beautiful and accomplished Kondratenko sisters around the dinning room. It was too much to take in on such a brief visit. I will continue to think often of Susanne, her Mom Patty and her Dad Eric every September 11th and many of the days in-between. I will remember the wonderful laughter that evening in 1990. Susanne is in the arms of the angels and I know she is comforted.

To the Kondratenko family, my thoughts and prayers go out to you today. I only had the pleasure of meeting Suzanne once while visiting her best friend/my sister in law, Sarah, and my brother, Nick, in Chicago. I remember her striking yet delicate beauty (yes, she was wearing red lipstick!), her great sense of style and, most importantly, how warm, engaging and funny she was. She left quite an impression on me that day and her spirit will never be forgotten.

I studied with Suzanne and especially remember her wonderful sense of humor. I will never forget the sight of her impish face peeking over the rim of an ancient urn she somehow managed to climb into when we were in Italy. I will never forget how Suzanne made every day at work fun by entertaining me with her hilarious comments and Austin Powers impressions. I always get a smile on my face when I think of our time working on the Keane project together. What a wonderful gift that she left so many people with such happy memories -- a true blessing.

Much love to Aimee, Marc, the Kondratenko Family, the Lin Family, and all of our KCG/Bricker colleagues...

Hello, I wanted to share with you a tribute that my class has put up in honor of Suzanne. We are in Mr. Green's Autism class at Independence High School, in Bakersfield Ca. My co-workers, students, and myself wanted to do something special in honor of those fallen in the 9/11 tragedy. After some research we came upon Suzanne's story and read that she had a special needs sister, that she was very close too. It was clear that we had found our hero. We would like to send our condolences and thank you, for sharing her story via internet so that we could come to know and appreciate her sacrifice. Please know that after all these years her legacy still touches people. God Bless, and you are in our prayers. Sincerely, Mr. Green's Class @Independence High School.

I did't know Suzanne Kondratenko, but on Sept.11 our lives would soon intersect. Suzanne's sister called Congressman David Bonior's district office in Mt.Clemens for help in tryig to locate Suzanne, who was considered missing in those early hours. I was the Congressional Aide who tried to help. For the last ten years on the anniversary, I say prayers for Suzanne and her family. I felt so powerless that day,and despite my attempts to intercede on behalf of the family, no immediate information was forthcoming. Today as I was reading the Detroit Freepress, I finally saw for the first time a picture of Suzanne. I read about her love for red lipstick. I plan to remember her by wearing red lipstick this week leading to the 10 year anniversary. Please know that I am sorry I could not do more for you as family that day. Know that I will continue to keep her in my prayers, and will continue to ask God to grant some sense of peace and much healing to all of Suzanne's family and friends. May God Bless you, and may God Bless Suzanne.

Our lives crossed over in ways I will never understand.. You were known as my "twin" at SMC.. I'd never met anyone who looked more like me and people would often come up to me and think I was you. However, it was something more than our appearance, I recognized a part of your "soul" that I will never forget, and I know you recognized mine too. I was so deeply saddened to hear that you are no longer a part of this world. I married the man who gave us those hockey tickets in Chgo, and we are blessed with three beautiful children. Thank you for gracing my life with your unique beauty.
