Funeral Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Thelma McCann will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Holloway Baptist Church with Dr. Jack West and Reverend Oliver Deen officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family asks that visitation be observed Friday, November 29, 2013 at the church from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and resume Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Thelma E. Newcomb McCann said goodbye to her earthly family on November 27, 2013, at the age of 89, and joined her Lord Jesus Christ and her family in Heaven.

She was born to Dell and Onie Carpenter Newcomb along with her twin sister, Velma on January 4, 1924, in Hot Springs, Arkansas and moved with her family to Central Louisiana to farm and raise cattle and always lived on Dell Newcomb Road, named for her family.

Thelma was a longtime faithful active member of Holloway Baptist Church. "MawMaw" loved her Lord, her family, her church, Gospel music.. She never said a prayer without praying for her children, grandchildren and loved ones. She faithfully read God's words in her Bible every day and lived according to his Holy Word. She was truly loved, respected and honored by her family and all knew her. She was a true lady, a loving mother and grandmother and a faithful Christian. Her influence and love will be missed forever. She lived the life of the virtuous woman spoken of in Proverbs 31.

Her passions were, cooking for her family (everyone loved her biscuits), fishing and quilting baby blanket and on Saturday's during football season, you would find her in her LSU shirt cheering for the Tigers.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Emra M. McCann, Sr., on June 9, 1994; her son Calvin; two infant great grandsons, her parents; her twin, Velma Newcomb Paulk; brothers, George Newcomb and Claude Newcomb and Edith Cash Bryant and an infant sister.

Surviving our loving mother and grandmother are her sons, Emra McCann, Jr. (Julia) and Clayton Leo McCann (Norma Sue), daughter-in-law, Billie White McCann; six grandchildren, Teena Ginn, Gracee Malone, Jody McCann, Kasey McCann, Chad McCann and Tara McCann Mink; thirteen great grandchildren; siblings, Mr. Huey D. Newcomb (Lois); Mrs. Mary Newcomb Price and Mrs. Earlene Newcomb Lucas (A.W.) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Matthew Gore, Chad McCann, Kasey McCann, Dawson McCann, Alex Ginn, Carl Lucas, Kenneth Newcomb, James "Pinky" Newcomb, Gracee Malone, Tara M. Mink, Teena Ginn and Jody McCann. Honorary pallbearers are her great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Leo, Norma Sue, Chad, Tara and the entire McCann/Newcomb family. We are so sorry for the loss of a wonderful family member. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Mrs. Thelma was always such a sweetheart. Everyone that knew her loved her. She was a walking testimony of the love of Christ. You could always count on Mrs. Thelma to have a sweet smile on her face and kind words from her mouth. She left a great legacy. Hopefully, you will find comfort in trying to emulate being the type of mother and grandmother that she was for you. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for Christ allowing this precious woman in the lives and hearts of all of Holloway Baptist Church and its community.

To the McCann family members, especially Leo, Norma, Tara, and Chad: Ken and I just became aware of the passing of Ms. Thelma McCann. Even though we did not know her personally, we are sure she was a wonderful lady because of her beliefs, passion for life, her generosity, and the lovely family she raised, guided, and cherished. We also admire the "spirit and spunk" she possessed which was inherited by Leo and Tara as an outstanding trait and she proudly displayed as a loyal, shirt-wearing Tiger fan. Please accept our deepest condolences and may she rest in peace. We know she will be missed by many!
