Therman VanAsselberg Obituary
Alexandria - Funeral services celebrating the life of Therman "Tony" VanAsselberg, Sr. will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria with Dr. B. David Brooks officiating. Burial will be Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Hixson Brothers, Alexandria on Thursday from 10:00 until shortly before time of service.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Chad VanAsselberg, Dr. Mark Pearce, Seth Washington, Michael VanAsselberg, Dr. Craig Pearce and "Art" VanAsselberg.
Mr. VanAsselberg, 88, of Alexandria, passed from life on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Rapides Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Mr. VanAsselberg served in the United States Army Battery A 17th F.A. Battalion Company. He was owner/operator of Tony's Garage and Mechanic Shop. Tony enjoyed fishing, traveling, and working in his garden. He loved making mayhaw jelly and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He touched the hearts of many and his memory will be cherished.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Virginia Wiley VanAsselberg; parents, Edward and Ethel Rivers VanAsselberg; four brothers; two sisters; granddaughter, Amy Nicole VanAsselberg and grandson, Seth Wiley Pearce.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 15 years, Betty Wells VanAsselberg: sons, Thurman VanAsselberg, Jr. (Theresa) and Michael VanAsselberg; daughters: Frances Burgin, Katie VanAsselberg, Mary Lee (Tommy), Theresa Pearce (Mark); Grandchildren: Dr. Chad VanAsselberg (Dr. Christen), Toni VanAsselberg, Leslie Burgin, Steven Burgin, Emily Turner, Sarah Washington (Seth), Jenny Jewett (Jeff), Dr. Jared Lee (Jaime), James Lee (Erica), Dr. Mark Pearce (Dr. Andrea), Chelsea Pearce, Dyllan, Dominic and Virginia VanAsselberg; Great-grandchildren: Aubrey and Luke VanAsselberg, Graylee Bradley, Kandyn Burgin, Virginia and Owen Turner, Colston and Autumn Lee, Halle and Rivers Jewett, Jacob Lee, Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth Washington, and a host of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
