ALVERT LEONARD BENNETT

January 27, 1921 to January 4, 2024

Alvert Leonard Bennett died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on January 4, 2024. Al, known as Sonny in Minnesota, was born January 27,1921, to Dewitt and Ragnhild (Nellie Boe) Bennett in Minnesota. Al had 4 sisters and 2 brothers. They all moved into the small town of Chokio from the farm when he was a teenager. He excelled at sports and learned to fly from Archie who lived on the outskirts of town and had a plane. Together they would fly passengers around Minnesota.

Al met Elrine Rose Andrews (1922-2015) in high school and knew she was someone special. But he moved to California without her to seek his fortune in 1940. Somehow, Elrine followed shortly after and found Al. They were married in 1943 and shared 72 years of marriage. They truly lived the American Dream. Al became a watchmaker. He and Elrine moved to Santa Barbara where they lived for 39 years and built a fairytale business, A.L. Bennett Jeweler in Montecito. They retired to Grass Valley in 1992 where they lived out their years close to family.

Al is survived by his daughter Vicki Habib of Kula, Hawaii; son Dan Bennett (Denise Witzig) of Oakland, California; grandchildren, Lisa Joslin, Rae Anne Lovell, Nolan Bennett and Gracie Bennett; great grandchildren Nicole Tanner and Lyra Bennett.

A memorial service will be held at 11a.m., Saturday, April 13th at Grace Lutheran Church, Grass Valley, CA. Reception to follow in the Church Hall.

In lieu of flowers Donations to Hospice Of The Foothills or Grace Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated.
