Claudia Reuther Obituary

Claudia Jean Reuther

October 21, 1949 – September 19, 2024

Our beloved Claudia Jean Reuther (Kinseth) passed away peacefully at home on September 19, 2024, surrounded by family, friends, and her precious dogs, after a long, hard-fought battle with Glioblastoma.

Claudia was born on October 21,1949 in San Francisco, California to Barbara Farrotte and Barnard Eckton. After graduation from Novato High School, she moved to Yuba City, where she lived with her mother, her loving stepfather, Howard, and five new step-siblings. She attended Yuba College and received an expert certification in the world of customer service and where she met her previous husband Michael. Then in summer of 1981, she embarked on the most important journey that she had ever known, becoming a mother to her baby girl Desireé. She always said those were the most precious years of her life.

In 1978, she began working at Nevada Union High School. During the early years, she was an attendance clerk and ASB bookkeeper. Claudia then continued her education to earn a teaching credential and became the Activities Director, Student Council Advisor, and Leadership teacher, where she shined like the bright star she was always meant to be. She coordinated and supervised all the important student activities at Nevada Union, like dances, rallies and fundraisers. She was a confidant, mentor, and fierce advocate for all students, saying that teenagers kept her young. She always provided a safe place for students to be themselves and gave them opportunities to grow into successful adults, all while being who she ultimately was, a fun, energetic and charismatic leader at the high school.

Claudia saw all the great bands of her generation, as music was the heart beat to her life. She loved to dance to rock and roll, country, some hip hop, basically any song with a good beat, all while carrying on everyday tasks. She was a walking musical note. Other hobbies included camping on the Klamath River and Fort Bragg with her husband Bruce, reading all the best novels, bicycling, walking the dogs, and enjoying outings with friends. After retirement in 2012, she took an dedicated liking to Jazzercise. Even after 32 years of entertaining hundreds of teenagers, she still couldn't seem to sit still. She was always on the move and full of love and life. Claudia was also a huge animal lover, tearing up every time she saw a cute video or commercial, but mostly her love centered around her dogs. Lastly, her Havanese, Odie and Jasper. In her spare time, Claudia spent countless hours tending to her garden. She spoke the language of flowers fluently, and was even known to start weeding public places when she saw a need. One of her last outings was with her daughter to see the tulips at Ananda in the spring.

Claudia was a doting mother, a loving wife, a best friend to all who knew her, she will be regrettably missed every day. She is survived by her loving husband Bruce Kinseth, beloved daughter Desireé Reuther, her dear grandson Tyler, and her loving baby dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-son Jamie, and daughter-in-law Sadie.

A celebration of life is planned for the spring, when the first flowers have bloomed.

I knew her when the stars seemed young
Tho´ it really was just us
With the twinkle of youth in our eyes.
I knew her when LOVE was everywhere
In the flowers and in the beads, and oh!
Remember all that HAIR!
I knew her then,
In those special times so long ago.
Those times we all remember so clearly
When we are old and grey.
Oh, those were the days!
I loved her then, my sister, my friend. . . . .

Claudia was a shinning star and one of the most positive influences on teenagers that I ever met. My heart goes out to her family and especially to her sweet husband Bruce.

Claudia had a huge impact on me as a teenager with her as my teacher/mentor. I loved working a long side her as her teachers aid.
She was so loved and will be so missed. Grateful I still get a huge part of her in you, Desiree. Love to you all.

I echo the beautiful sentiments of Mrs. McFadden. Claudia is one of the most amazing humans I have ever come to know. She reached out to an awkward freshman desperate for attention and taught me how to be weird and fearless and dance even if everyone is watching. She is the reason I love The Stones. I will miss her laugh. Godspeed, my beautiful friend.

Claudia will definitely be miss by many people, yet greeted by so many others in her next phase. She had such a cool past. I loved reading about her. Such a sweet soul.

How well this memory of Claudia captures her spirit and zest for life. She touched the lives of so many students with her compassion and motivation to succeed. I feel fortunate beyond measure to have spent time with Claudia. She was my friend. In fact, the whole Nevada Union community was blessed with her loyalty and enthusiastic dedication. I extend great love to Claudia's family and to all who were lucky enough to have known her.
