James Shaw

I benefited greatly from George Shaw's* instruction at Yuba College, where I enrolled in his U.S. History classes in 1979-1980. He inspired me to explore further, and I finished my undergraduate studies as a History major after I transferred to Sonoma State University.
He always welcomed students who visited his office with questions or just to talk. His encouragement helped to set me on a path that led to my career as a librarian and professor. I've drawn from his example many times, and I remain grateful for my studies with him.
My condolences to his family and friends. May his memory be a blessing.
*We share a family name, but we are not related. My loss, I am sure.

George and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. You had such an exceptional Dad and one that you can forever be proud of. Cherish those memories.

George was my Facebook friend and although I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, we shared our lives and interest through telecommunications and I also have the pleasure of sharing life with his lovely and very witty wife Helen. George and I share several mutual friends which had Yuba College or the town of Live Oak in their backgrounds. He is truly an unforgettable person and I am honored he chose to enhance our friendship with his remarkable personality and life.
