Margaret Licha Obituary

Margaret Gail Licha

September 23, 1942 to July 25, 2023

Margaret Gail passed away at home with her family and faithful dog by her side. She is survived by her beloved children, Michelle Licha-Oros and Mahfoud Licha, Myla Licha (daughter in law) and two grandchildren, Camilo and Marcelo, Mike Oros (son-in-law), loving nieces, nephews, and brother.

Born in Albany, California, she spent many years in Venezuela raising her two children, immersing herself in the culture, pursuing her love for ceramics and folk art. In her 40s she returned to school and graduated from Sacramento State University with a BA in Ceramic Arts. She started a hand-crafted ceramic tile business finishing her last order just two weeks before her passing- testament to her passion and grit.

Even through her own struggles with cancer, she had the grace and strength to support her family and friends. She'll be remembered through her art, for her joy and stamina, homegrown heirloom tomatoes, avid walker and hiker, creator of good fun, delicious meals and killer birthday cheesecakes.

Mom is preceded in death by her parents, beloved sister Stephanie Sager and all her companion dogs through the decades.

Oh I am so heartbroken. I have Margaret“s work in two baths in a cabin in Clark, Colorado and she was so kind and easy to work with. I am blessed and honored to have her work displayed in our home. A huge loss to all ceramicists who appreciated her talent - she made her pieces come alive with characters that simply made you happy. My thoughts to you all in her family - she will truly be missed.

I am sorry to learn of her passing! She was a wonderful person and her tiles were and are beautiful and amazing! Just like her! I have a specialty tile store in Maine and I have purchased many of her tiles over the years (since 2008). She is leaving a big hole in my heart and my tile store. Fondly, Audrey Miller, www.MaineTileConnection.com

I am so sorry to learn of Margaret's passing. I have a beautiful wall she created for my dog shower about 15 years ago. I had last contacted her in 2018 to see about getting more tiles for dogs I have had since. Now 2 more dogs later I looked her up. Just a reminder to me to not put things off as you never know how quickly things can change in life. Her work is beautiful. I will always treasure my wall - I am so sorry for your loss. Lisa

Margaret donated many of her animal tiles to AnimalSave. They were very popular auction items for our fundraisers.
I have a piece in my office I so enjoy. It is a wolf and her pup that clearly demonstrates her devotion to canines. Condolences to your family.
