MARTIN AARON HARMON

October 20, 1967 to May 12, 2024

Martin Aaron Harmon, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on May 12, 2024, in Grass Valley, California. Born on October 20, 1967, in Auburn, California, Martin spent his life in the Golden State, deeply rooted in his community and family.

Martin was named after his father, Martin A. Harmon, who predeceased him in February 2023. His mother, Jean, and his beloved first wife, Michelle, who died of breast cancer, also predeceased him. Martin found love again and married Yao Zhou in November 2016, after which they spent seven and a half joyful years together.

Martin is survived by his devoted wife Yao, his daughter and eldest child, Alyssa, and his two sons, Aaron and Eric. He leaves behind a large family, including his sisters, Martine, Melody, Pamela, Vicky, Shyrel, Deidre, and Susan, as well as his brothers, Walter, Chris and Matthew. He also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other extended family members, and many dear friends. His family and friends were the light of his life.

Professionally, Martin dedicated much of his life to the construction industry. He was a gifted conversationalist, who began his career in modest roles and worked his way up into supervisory positions in various capacities, including working for the City of Lincoln as a Public Works Inspector. At the time of his passing, he was serving as a Vice President of Western Care Construction Company, a family business where he also served on the Board of Directors. He held leadership positions on the Boards of eight other companies as well. Martin was actively involved in his community, and ran for local public office from time to time, to generate public discussion about issues that he felt strongly about.

A true animal lover, Martin had a passion for rescuing stray and abandoned animals, including horses, ducks, chickens, dogs, and cats. At well over six feet tall, he naturally projected strength and authority, but he was well known for his empathy and compassion. Even wild creatures could sense his kind and caring nature and approached him for help in times of need. He was truly a good soul.

Additionally, Martin was an avid collector of Star Trek and Star Wars memorabilia and was a knowledgeable firearms enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and especially spending time on his family's Penn Valley ranch.

Martin's presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

I was sorry to find this. I have been working on my Buettner Family Tree, and only recently "discovered" Martin as a 4th cousin. RIP cousin.

To say the least, I am shocked and saddened by the news of Martin Aaron´s passing! I worked on the Gold Country Ranch for his father. Martin and I became friends and I have always enjoyed our conversations. My condolences to his family and he will be greatly missed.

The first time I met Martin was around 1979 in Roseville, California. He was around 12 years old. My husband George knew his father and brought Martin to meet us and we went to the movies. I noticed he had a dollar bill pinned on his shirt. I asked him why. he said his mother pinned it on him because he didn't have anything green to wear. It was St Patricks Day. I will never forget that day. Martin grew up to be a very nice person and quite a talker. My husband George was his best man for both of his weddings. George was quite fond of Martin and his sister Martine, also other family members. My family and I send our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones. Martin will be missed by all of us who knew him.
