Richard Stone Obituary

Richard Stone

January 25, 1950 – October 1, 2025

Rich was a 30-year resident of Grass Valley. He and his family were very active in NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). With his friend Guy Kerr, Rich worked to bring a respite center to Nevada County, which has helped many people.

He started a program where he taught kids to play the violin, providing instruments and lessons at no cost to the participants. The program ultimately became the first Youth Orchestra of Nevada County, which was taken over by Music in the Mountains. Music was his passion and he was so proud of all of his students.

In 2017, Rich and his wife moved to Gig Harbor, WA. He lived a wonderful life with no regrets. He leaves behind his wife, Cathy, and his children Billie and Matthew. If you knew Rich, or if he made a difference in your life, do something nice for someone today.

Richard was a fine person and a strong advocate for the local NAMI branch. He was a gifted musician and provided this "Big Kid" excellent training in basic violin. I´ll always be grateful for his friendship and kindness.

My deep sympathy to Cathy and family.
