THOMAS SAMUEL ROTH

August 11, 1963 to January 16, 2024

With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Tom Roth, who died following a work related accident on January 16, 2024.

Tom was born to William and Claudia Roth on August 11, 1963.

A proud son of the Grass Valley community his entire life, Tom was an expert arborist in the area for over 35 years. The epitome of strength, fortitude, resilience and grit, he took great pride in and exemplified the definition of old school, hard work. A master of his craft, Tom owned and operated his own tree business for over 17 years in the Nevada County region. Assisting clientele of all ages, particularly the elderly, with no job too big or too small. Tom was well known for his steady, reliable and conscious service to always helping others.

The only thing greater than his powerful presence and outgoing personality was his big heart. Tom was a loyal and devoted family man to his wife Wendy of 40 years, 4 children, parents, siblings and relatives, unfailingly. He was a trusted and dependable friend to all he knew and loved.

Tom was an avid outdoorsman, athlete and sports fan throughout his life. He loved hunting, racing, disc golf, basketball and softball in his youth and as an adult.

Tom was a proud and passionate player in the local Grass Valley Senior Basketball League and Gold Country Senior Softball Association, member of the all star team and winner of the Don Young Memorial Championship.

He leaves behind his loving wife Wendy, children Joseph, Nicole, Melinda and Sam, grandsons Alex and Enrique, siblings Bill (Laurie), James, Mike (Tabatha), Claudia, and Carol (Todd), cousins, nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Tom is preceded in death by his mother, Claudia Wegeman and father William Roth.

He will be dearly loved and missed by all, and never forgotten.

The public is welcomed to a potluck celebration of life at the Love Building in Condon Park on Saturday April 13 at 1PM

I worked for Tom about 35 yrs ago. Tom was always in a good mood. Super cool and a great person to emulate. It was obvious he loved life and being a husband and father. One of Grass Valley's finest people. R.I.P. Tom.

Tom was a friend, collaborator and my go to for almost anything that was physical! Like his dad Bill, Tom had a giant heart. As Peggy and are weee always in need Tom was on call. Leaks in the roof, a dying 90´ Magnolia Grandaflora, Christmas lights downtown Tom was there. We loved our conversations, our refreshments and the joy of completing our work. Thanks Tom; your heart and vice will truly be missed! Swan Levine and Gering

Tom was a joy to be around. When he wasn't mimicking squirrels, he was finding something else funny to talk about. RIP Tom, you will be missed.
