William Glen Turner, Jr. (75) known to most as "Bill", passed away on February 17, 2025 in Tallahassee, Florida after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Bill was born on September 19, 1949, to his parents William Turner, Sr. and Faye Fleming Turner of Pensacola, Florida.
After graduating from Pensacola High School, Bill attended Pensacola Junior College, before enlisting in the United States Army in 1970. Bill wanted to serve his country and he fulfilled that commitment by proudly serving for 25 years of combined time in the Army as active duty and Reserves. He served in both the Vietnam War and the Gulf War prior to his retirement as a Staff Sergeant.
Following his active duty in the military, Bill joined the Florida Highway Patrol. After graduating from the Highway Patrol Academy, Bill was assigned to Troop K of Broward County, where he patrolled the Florida Turnpike. During his time with the Florida Highway Patrol, his family moved throughout Florida including Coral Springs, Perry, and Tallahassee before finally retiring in Tallahassee as a Sergeant with over 25 years of service. Along with working as a state trooper, he spent many years as a Floor Security Supervisor at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, where he remained working up until this past November.
After retirement, Bill being the hard worker he was, he could not bear to fully retire and went on to become a realtor. Bill dedicated 15 years to Coastwise Realty of Crawfordville, Florida and loved helping his clients find their perfect home. Many of his clients would become lifelong friends.
Bill's family were part of the founding members of Timberlane Church of Christ of Tallahassee. He enjoyed the many visits their leadership paid him during his final years. Over the past three years, Bill enjoyed traveling abroad. During that time, he garnered friendships along his travels, that led him to meeting his Canadian friends. This friendship led him to traveling as a group with them; exploring places such as the Greek Isles, Scotland, Ireland, and most recently he had been on a two-week Safari in Africa. His other hobbies included nature walks, his pets, FSU basketball, baseball, music and lastly, he was an avid astronomy enthusiast.
Survivors include his children, Tammy Burns (Robert) and Craig Turner (Jackie); daughters of his late wife Jan, Julie Bumgarner (Jeff) and Jamie Westerling (Rob); five grandchildren and one great-grandson on the way; as well as a host of extended family members. Bill also leaves behind many past colleagues, friends, his pampered herd of cats and pet raccoons; whom he loved dearly! He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Janith Charline Turner.
The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Timberlane Church of Christ on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 10:00am with a funeral service to immediately follow at 11:00am. A committal service at Tallahassee National Cemetery will be held at 1:00pm. Breanna Green of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the family with their arrangements.
