Amy Parker Obituary

Amy Morgan Parker, of North Stonington, passed away on March 19, 2009, at the age of 77. She was the youngest and last surviving child of Arthur Maurice Morgan, and Helen Mosher Morgan.
Amy was born at home on Aug. 4, 1932, in the Quiambaug area of Stonington, but lived in her youth in North Stonington, attending local one-room schools. One of her teachers at the time, whom she admired much and was a great influence to her, was Marcia Thompson.
Amy attended Stonington High School one year. Due to failing eyesight, she went to Hartford to Oak Hill School for the Blind. She graduated with honors from high school; she was employed by St. Francis Hospital for many years.
It was at this time she met and married her husband, John D. Parker III. After living in Canton for 29 years, they moved to North Stonington in 1991.
Amy was well known to so many as a superior culinary expert-queen of the kitchen. She was widely renowned for knitting prowess-making everything from mittens and hats for charity to very elaborate afghans which she gave to many. She was a brilliant conversationalist and her sense of humor was legendary.
She was very active in her church, having served in numerous capacities in spite of her blindness. Twice she served as President of the Local Relief Society (Womans' Auxilliary)
John and Amy had no children of their own, but Amy leaves a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings, Ernest Morgan, Mildred Morgan Kench, Lester Morgan, Alice Morgan Chapin Reed, Robert Morgan, and Evelyn Morgan Dufilie. Her husband survives her.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1230 Flanders Road, Groton, on Saturday, March 28, beginning at 9:30 a.m., with a service immediately following at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in North Stonington.

John, Richard & I are sad to hear of Amy's passing. I remember you & Amy walking on our street in Canton. The neighborhood hasn't been the same since you moved away. Our hearts go out to you at this time.

Dear John--We were saddened to hear of Amy's passing. What an extraordinary lady she is! I always marveled at all the things she was able to do without her sight--like knit and weed her garden and cook meals. Imagine all the things she can do now that she can see. Amy was a ray of sunshine in the lives of all her knew her. You both helped us with our genealogy when we were just getting started. She was a faithful member of our sisters' scripture study group. We have fond memories of her all dressed up to ride in parades in your antique cars. Her work at church was tireless and an example to all. We have missed you since you left the Hartford area, but cherish wonderful memories of both of you. Our love always, Lynne and Jerry Hunt

Amy is an angel loaned to us on earth who blessed and inspired many lives. Amy constantly lifted our family and so many others through her love, example and service. All who know them take great strength from John and Amy, whose joyful marriage is legendary among us.

We send our heartfelt love and prayers to John and family with assurance that Amy has gone home "trailing clouds of glory." We plan to celebrate her life by emulating her example.

Much love from Jerry and Alta Jaccard, Cameron and Karin Jaccard, Jared Jaccard, Lynnea and Berton Pinkham, and Ginger and Greg Scott.

Dear John,
Well, if I can see through my tears, I'll send you a few thoughts. Amy has always been one of my favorite people. I believe I learned more from her by the way she lived and her positive attitude than I have from numerous seminars on such... Recall the years we lived in CT together. Amy and Barbara and I served in the RS Presidency together for the Hartford Ward. After I was released as President, the Bishop asked me if I thought Amy would be able to serve as President. I said, "Are you kidding? She walks circles around all of us!" She was a valiant sister and was a constant inspiration to me. You and Amy hosted us one night for dinner. Amy wanted to show us your home. We walked upstairs and she said, "Oh, let my turn on the light...I forgot you are handicapped." She served a magnificent dinner and wouldn't let us help in the kitchen. You must miss her terribly and we send our love to you. You have always been a valiant companion to Amy; you were both wonderful examples to all of us. We often reflect upon the special friendship we had. Our love, Doug and Betty Jo

Dear John,
I have such fond memories of Amy during the time you lived in Canton. Whenever I came to visit teach Amy I always left feeling uplifted. I especially loved to visit with Amy in her garden and have her share her knowledge of perenials with me. Amy will always have a special place in my heart.
