David Grills Obituary
Born in Pawcatuck, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Grills.
David was employed at the former Grills Motors and then worked in machine maintenance at Electric Boat in Groton until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church and a US Marine veteran of the Korean War. David was a member of both the Westerly Elks and the Pawcatuck Italo-American Club.
He leaves his devoted wife Rose Marie; three sons, Steven Grills and his wife Susan; James Grills and his wife Jeanne, all of Mystic; and Michael Grills and his wife Norma of North Stonington; his sister and brother-in-law Helen and Joseph Nigrelli of Westerly; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters.

To Rosemarie, Steve,Jim, Mike and all of your extended family:
GOD SPOKE TO NOAH AND SAID "BUILD AN ARK!"
So Davy Grills and Tom Dinoto, Sr. headed out to each others backyards in their precious little spare time and built two. Nobody went out into the world to gather up animals. Instead they went out to gather fish, and/or take the family out to Sandy Point.
For the rest of my life I had a friend named Steve, a friend named Jimmy, and later came Mike. Their mom was always sweet and kind, and Dave had a million dollar smile that nobody could ever forget, including me. So, now another part of my boyhood has left us, and I feel lucky that I knew him, another member of America's Greatest Generation.
I want to extend my sympathy to you all. I will tell you that if we weren't all dealing with this Covid19 you would be counting me among the present to pay my respects. Please know that I am with you in spirit, and that hereafter, whenever I think of Davy Grills I will be smiling.

Rose Marie and The Grills Family,
Please accept our sincerest condolences on the passing of Dave. He was always a welcome participant of the coffee crew at the local gathering place. I will miss seeing him there and in church, with that indelible smile and words of wisdom. I am glad that we enjoyed your company when we went out to eat those few times. Rest In Peace Marine. You served your country and your friends with respect and honor. I will miss you, as will many others.
