Donald "Buzzy" Barker Obituary

Donald F. "Buzzy" Barker Sr., 75, of South County Trail, North Kingstown died Saturday Nov. 24, 2007, at South County Hospital, Wakefield. He was the beloved husband of Margherita (DeQuattro) Barker.
Don was born in Westerly, a son of the late Hugh and Grace Barker.
He was employed with Electric Boat in Groton for many years, retiring as a planner.
He was also formerly employed at The Washington Trust Company.
A member of the Amancio-Falcone-Gaccione VFW Post of Westerly, he was a Korean War veteran having served with the U.S Air Force achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Barker was a member of the Westerly Yacht Club as well as the Westerly Lodge of Elks BPOE #678.
He was also a past treasurer of the American Federation of Government Employees Local #998. Don enjoyed many sports and was a member of both bowling and golf leagues in North Kingstown. He was also quite adept at fantasy football, and he will be missed by his many friends who took pleasure in the same hobby.
Mr. Barker was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church in North Kingstown.
His greatest passion in life was spending time with his family particularly his grand and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, Donald F. Barker Jr. of Weaverville, N.C., Douglas M. Barker of Westerly and Scott J. Barker of Pawcatuck; and three daughters, Lori A. Barker of Warwick, Joann E. Holly of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Jacquelyn A. Barker of Taftville, Conn. He is also survived by one brother, David W. Barker of Texas; one sister, Barbara Murano of Groton, Conn.; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by his first wife Marilyn (Rezendes) Barker.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Michael Church, Liberty Street, Pawcatuck, with burial in River Bend Cemetery.
Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, was in charge of arrangements.
Family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Bernard's Bldg. Fund, 415 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852 in Don's memory.

Sorry to read of Buzzy's passing. He was a school chum, Stonington High School class of 1950 and did a lot to help get the reunions together. We will miss him at the next reunion, Our prayers are with the family.

to margherit and family, im so sorry you guys lost such a good and caring person in your family.I really feel for you guys alot.Just try to remember all the good times everyone had with him.Just try to keep your heads up and think postive im sure hell still be with you no matter what you guys do hell be watching over you.im really sorry i cant go and see you guys on the hardest days coming but i will always be here for the ones that i do know in the family.which there are 7 of them next door to my house and whoever else that needs someone to talk to.margherit and melissa and family just remember i will be here as much as i can be so just remember that.Please take care everyone love you guys julie and family.
